Ok guys I had really wanted to sell this mod, but my conscience got the best of me. I refuse to stand by and let people suffer for this mod when I have it.. I wish I was more greedy really!

Here is the link to download the module, installation instructions are inside.

http://roleplayerworld.com/phpbb3&dolphin.zip

This module, will create users in phpbb3 through dolphin, as well as long and log outs.

The way its coded it leaves no "left behind" users when you install it. So theres no worries.

For those of you who would have bought it, I am saving for a new chat server for my website..... as well as the paid versions of some of the dolphin stuff... if you would be kind enough to donate to the cause at www.roleplayerworld.com See the donate there is a donation link there. I Would greatly like that! If I recieve enough donations I will go ahead and make a much more enchanced version that will hook into the members system as well as the admin panel!

Leave feed back and questions here!

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!IMPORTANT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

in your include/utils.inc.php file there is a redirect function you will need to comment it out. I didnt include this file cause for 1. I forgot about it.. and well 2. This is a pretty popularly edited file andI dont want someone breaking their stuff cause of me!

ryne,

thank you very much, my question to you would be, if you coded this why not submit it to boonex/unity as your free extension? as that is one of the requirements to move up in rank on this new system. that way those viewing on here will see this listed in the extensions.

I did not know there was a system for this haha!

What does it take/require for me do this?

Also I am still reading up on what it takes to make it a true module, sense right now its just a file overwrite. Once its a true module I think thats a grand idea....

Yes, thanks for making this.  I know there are some good paid mods out there but I do wish this was a standard, supported feature of Dolphin.  A good integration with phpBB would offer us a world of other mods, and provide an alternative to Orca- which I assume most people will still want to use.

Could you tell me- could this mod be made to work if I have installed my phpBB in a directory other than the Dolphin "forums" directory?

Never mind on that question about the forums directory- saw that you addressed it in your read me file.

I am working on a much more uptodate one that I will be releasing on my blogg by the end of the day... Its alot better and easier to work install

The function that mike speaks of is not the one that dolphin uses to redirect its users... thats redirectcode.

I promise that it can be commented out with no ill effects. I however challenge anyone *cough* Mike Scott *cought* to prove other wise!

By "prove otherwise" you mean tell you the 10 files it is used in, haha. I don't want to spoil the surprise.. I'm axiously  awaiting your next version though!

Your childishness bores me Mike... if I wanted to know how many or which files used it expression web could easly show me in about 10 secounds, or editpad pro for that matter.....

I dont care which files uses it and which ones dont, what I care about is an example of dolphin being broken because of it being commented out. If you cant prove it then you just sound like one of those homeless dudes on the street corner yelling to everyone that the end is coming...

So put your money where your mouth is or shut up please...

Comon guys, you have to trust the real guys and mscott is one of them. Free means really sloppy code and poorly tested. Only use or TEST in a development folder of your site which has a Dolphin install you can blow up.

There are so many versions/modded/unmoded/buggy/not so buggy out there that each user will have different errors.

If anyone needs help fixing it pm one of guys with more then 500 posts on expertzzz...it was the old forum where many many answers are

just an observation here to all of you guys who are looking for something on this level for free. somebody had to spend some countless time on this to make it happen. so what is the big deal with spending a few bucks if it makes your site more attractive to your userbase?

i personally dont look for free stuff, i look for what i can afford. there are many mods out there, and i have been victim of them, that in price comparison, you would think the product was good. well i have been burned, and i have been burned by some of the higher ranked authors over on expertzzz. but i take my lumps and move on.

if mscott has spent his time creating this mod, which you all appear to be wanting for free, then you obviously think its worth nothing, or you would spend or donate a few bucks to him for his time and dedication.

just my thoughts. FREE IS what FREE DOES

Well if that is true than Dolphin has sloppy code, as does phpBB as both are free products- as is most of the software in the open source world.

That is a complete misrepresentation of my opinion, and probably the opinions of others here.  I have paid for one phpBB mod already, and it worked acceptably until I did an upgrade.  Ryne did a service by offering a free mod- I see no reason to insult him.  There are other mods for this besides the one that mscott and Ryne did- I was simply expressing the desire that there be an official mod supported by Boonex that we knew was well tested and would work even after upgrades.

So I wanted to share a phpbb3 integration I performed with dolphin.  I started some of the ideas from mscotts code, but then took it further.  You can see it at www.studioveena.com, you'll notice that the iframe bars are gone, there is full avatar integration and user names link back to the site.  Additionally I integrated a Signature into the Dolphin UAC that carries back to phpbb3 so that you can manage all your configs in one place.

Well cool!  Are you making it availble to this community for free?  I couldn't see it because it requires registration- is that a setting that can be changed?

p.s.  I would register on your site, but I am a little old for pole dancing :-(   probably the wrong gender too.

I will hand the code over to whomever wants it at no cost.  The only concern I have is that a few of the queries are mscott's and I'm not sure how the Boonex Licensing scheme deals with derivative work.  To be clear the vast majority of the implementation is brand new but since it started in mscotts court I want to make sure we are working in a manner friendly to him.  Would the appropriate recourse be to first offer the code to him and if he declines it becomes public domain?

Hi again chimerafun, same thing I just said to you by PM:

-

Thanks Chimerafun, I will check it out. As I mentioned in that thread, there seem to be several competing mods - I wish someone could just turn this over to Boonex as an extension, and they would make it an open source thing. Then no single person would have to worry about maintaining it, and support would be much easier.

-

Rob

-

p.s.  I agree with your reply that Boonex is unlikely to provide much support for this because they are pushing Orca, but this is an important mod that would link two major products, and would open up a world of possibilities, so maybe they could reconsider.

I realize I am sounding like a broken record here, but does anyone have an approach that works?  (for the benefit of the younger folks here a "record" was a plastic platter used to play music in the olden days.  It could get scratched, and the music would skip over and over - hence the pharse "broken record").

-

Seriously, I just went to make a post in Orca that I didn't want to be public and I realized how unsophistacted Orca's security and permissions system is.   Maybe Orca will get better, or maybe I will find a way to live with its limitations, but I really wish I had the option to have phpBB.   I'm starting to get a few Orca posts but I don't want my forum to get too big since I may be changing technology.  Again, I wish this integration mod was open source, because none of the other mods - free or otherwise, seem to be supported.  I'm wondering if for me at least, it might be best to start with a fairly low level of integration - just the username maybe, so you log on with Dolphin but can use phpBB3 forums.  If anyone has any help or advice on how to get going on this it would be appreciated.

Re: CALTRADE

Strange that you wish phpBB3 so strongly, I have worked with the phpBB3 template system since it's first BETA release, I find Orca a wonderful breath of fresh air. The simplicity of it by nature makes it far more pleasing to me than phpBB3 could ever be, but I guess I am viewing the forum section on my own site differently to forums I have been involved with in the past.

I am looking at the Orca forum section as a central focul point where members will be able to come together with speific support topics so they can avoid the potential hardship of other not picking up on needed support via the groups or blog areas. I can't really see a point to a full on forum solution, with the groups and the blogs in Dolphin a full on forum just seems redundant me.

Can I enquire why you feel a full on forum solution would be necessary with Dolphin, please, I am not trying to be rude, I am wondering if I myself am missing something here.

Peace be yours,

Reverend.K.Fitzgerald

Rev. Fitzgerald, I don't think you are being rude, but I am looking for a solution to getting phpBB3 integrated, not a debate to try to convince me that I really don't want it.  As I said in my last post, I wanted more sophistication in the security - what can be public and what can be private- with phpBb and other forums that can be set for anything, with Orca- it is an on / off switch - either all the forums are completely pubic or they are for member's only - you can't set individual forums as far as I know.  The backend controls on phpBB and other forums are also much more sophisticated, while in Orca they are almost non-existant.  Finally, phpBB has a huge and active online community- and they have developed hundreds of mods- some of which I want - so it would give a second avenue to enhancing my system.

-

Back to my issue- if anyone knows how I can get started on a simple integration, I would like to know about it.

I would like to integrate SMF (http://www.simplemachines.org/) on my site, how can I do that? I did consider using phpbb3 but having read about all the hacking attacks etc I thought a lower profile (but excellent) forum module would be safer. Any thoughts on this?

I saw your topic on phpbb.com here:
