Well you learn first, then apply it in real life. The more you use it the better you get. The more you are surrounded by good developers the better you get.

1. Lots of books from Amazon

2. Lots of googling and finding examples on various websites

3. Hours and hours of staring at the Dolphin 6.0.X code

I'm not sure if #3 taught me what to do or what NOT to do :-)

 Is staring at codes really helps?

started slow with an established CMS package, learning to modify it in background to please clients, little by little the knowledge started settling in - ironic in that I spent 5+ years learning to do anything to that package a person could ask only to meet this client who hated the scripts and wanted me to use ning, was lucky to talk them into Dolphin instead, er, I hope, the learning curve with Dolphin has just begun
