masking profile names in address url

Would there be any way to mask a profile url so that you'd have only http://somesite.com/  in the address bar instead of http://somesite.com/ladyluck4? With a private membership site, it's better to not have where someone can randomly guess a members name to type in to view profiles. Just wondering.

You can use mod_rewrite to have the URL bar show something different than the actual address but each profile would still have to show something unique. If it just showed the site address the browser would just go back to the homepage.
