This mod gives the flexibility for a Site Administrator to create unlimited Categories of Information and make each category available in its individualized page block that can be accessed on any page.
This is a unique mod gives great flexibility to any site that is information related as it allows data to be grouped and distributed on the site in a manner not available by any other means in Dolphin.
Category Setup
The following options are available when setting up a category :
1) Admin can decide which media type (if any) can be attached to information posted in the Category.
2) Admin can decide how many items are displayed at a time in each block.
3) The block can be displayed in regular or tabbed format. If tabbed format is used, the information can be filtered based on :
a) All items.
b) Featured items.
c) Favorited items.
d) Items posted today, this week or this month.
4) Categories can be configured to allow posting access to all members or Administrators only. Access to members can be further restricted based on membership level.
5) Admin can decide to allow/disallow anonymous posting in a Category.
Custom Fields
Administrator can add custom fields that are general or specific to a particular Category. Fields can be of the following types :
a) Textbox
b) Textarea
c) Date
d) Select box (single or multiple)
Each field added can be declared as compulsory or not.
Possible Uses
You might wonder, how could I possibly use this ? See sample Use Case below :
A category could be created called, "Politics Today" and members can post their political views in that Category. You could possibly place this category block on the homepage.
Another category could be created called "Schedule" and members could post their schedule details. This block could be possibly placed on the Profile page and would only display info posted the Profile owner.
Yes Another category could be created called "Site Progress" and this would allow only Admins to post in it. This could have thread postings providing information to the site members about current activities or happenings with the site.
Above you see an example of how three completely different category of information is collected and distributed on the site via the single module.
