Dolphin 7 (Hookie) BETA 8. Now with "6to7" migration script.

This one took a bit more than we expected, mostly due to the security update we talked about before. Anyway, we expect this to be the last beta and the next release will bring the long-awaited "update scripts" tail.

6to7

The coolest part about today's package is the "6to7" data-transfer script. Something you're supposed to use for moving site database from Dolphin 6 to Dolphin 7. Yeah, turns out that we'll be releasing it as well, so give it a test drive, please. Here's what you need to know:

  1. Install Dolphin 7.0 to the same server as Dolphin 6.1.6, so migration script would be able to get data from it.
  2. Your Dolphin 6.1.6 site will stay put, so you can play it a few times, no sweat.
  3. You can only migrate from 6.1.6 (6.1.5 could play ball too, but we haven't checked).
  4. Dolphin 7 installation must be a "clean install" with all the modules installed (those you're using at 6.1.6 at least).
  5. Start from "Profiles" first, then go on with the rest of the data.
  6. Migration is a "cron job" thing, so cron jobs have to be properly configured.

Clicking on link to online demo directs to install script.

Since this version includes a data migration script are we to assume that D8 to RC will not require a fresh install?
Rappi
Migration from 6.1.6 to Beta8 is not the same as Upgrade Beta8 to RC!

I understand that. Why would I bother to migrate the data if I will need to do a fresh install for RC?
MadMax11
This is wonderful news, thank you.

D7.B8 is gud to know.
RC will be a real triumph.

clicking cancel in the pundits login prompt returns error.

what about migrating from 7.0 beta to the 8.0 is that possible and how ?
thanks
CALTRADE
Nope - looks like you wasted your time on beta 7.

So,,, if i install beta 8 would i be able to migrate to RC1 or 7. just making sure.
Stadsk
So, does this mean I can now install my live site with D7B8 and later migrate to RC onward?

I have waited for so long for this. I lost almost a year hosting without a live site. I just kept waiting for this day.
UFO360
this is only 6 to 7 or this is 6 to 7 to 8

i have the 7 and i want to update to 8
Rappi
Its from Dolphin 6.1.6 to Dolphin 7 beta 8!
Dolphin 8 ??? This is great!!! I think it came in the year 2015.......

Neither of you can read today... Go get your glasses...

UFO this is to migrate D6.1.6 to D7 for those who have working sites and so on. It's purely a data migration type thing.

Rappi, He has D7 Beta 7 and was asking about migration for D7B7 to D7B8...

Your also incorrect on D8... That's actually been released at 8/23/2291, sorry man, you were 276 years early there.

Nice work, boonex...:)
Thanks!

Will we be able to update from now on or we sill have to make a fresh install for RC versions ?
CALTRADE
It is nice that there is a working upgrade script from D6.6 - but this means that 90 percent of your members will have to upgrade from D6.4 just to do the migration, and then it will be just into another "beta". Will there be an upgrade script from this beta to the first RC? If not, everyone will be wasting their time since we will just have to tear down all our work and start all over still again. It was my understanding, from your blog post "when" - that this beta would be see more released two weeks ago, and the RC was going to be released last Friday. Does that mean the RC will be about a week off? - if so, I think most people would rather wait (unless they have time on their hands and want to volunteer as your testing staff). On the other hand, if you could provide this upgrade script we could put all this behind us and finally get going on our long-delayed applications. If you can't or won't do that, for whatever reason, could you at least give us an honest date for the RC, so we can make rational business decisions. Many of us really believed that "when" blog post you wrote.

Thanks a lot Andrew,
Would love to see the RC1 by next friday..keeping fingers crossed !!!

Caltrade, this doesn't call for tearing down your currrent site. It's a migration type thing. Meaning you have to have the D6.1.x up and running and install a D7B8 on the same server and set up the cron job to migrate the data over for you. This may disrupt the D6 site (not sure yet as it could potentially at least tie the hell out of a server if it's a large DB) but you'll still have your D6 site when it's done. By doing it this way, Boonex is enabling you to begin testing a production form see more of the software while still holding on to your current site's functionaltiy.
CALTRADE
I was talking about tearing down D7B8 - not my D6 site. Since there apparently will be no upgrade script to the RC we will either have to try to keep it updated through Trac, or tear it down and start all over again.

So do we still expect the RC to be on the 1st? or around there?
progammer
I love boonex! and I visit boonex everyday for updates :D

and am impatiently waiting for stable version of dolphin 7
totallyfreak
ok cool, finally we see RC in the trac section...

but my only question is when you will release the RC version... it was supposed to be last friday... so in 1 week or 1 month?
mastermindsro
Only GOD knows how I am still able to wait :D
Anyway good job Boonex! The only negative thing I can say about you is that you never finish a release on time..
Except that.. you guys are brilliant! Thanks!

when first open http://demozzz.com/dolphin7b/, the google map always float out the box, to be belowed th "public groups" and "public store". It restore to its right position only if try to drag it somewhere. interesting.

Upgrading to beta 8 is not a good idea right now till they fix the new "security" feature. The site is so secure now that not even an administrator can change things!
