Music and Video Categories. Your opinion is needed!

Good idea :)
I have it into my mind as:
1. Admin side (better PHP to possible change sources): - create category/subcategory for video/audio/photos
2. User side: our ray upload SWF can able to load this categories into another one (new) combo box, after uploading - this category automatically assigned
Hope that this is right way

i think the option should be like ray games, where you can add Categories i.e card games, shooting games, and so on, as admin you select where to put the game from a drop down.

with the music and video, i feel the admin sets the Categories and the user is allowed to select what one from the drop down menu. and use a Default for any that forget to choose a Category or it does not fit in any on the ones listed.

i am also a little worried about the "chicks for free" missing, this was see more left out in error? or by choice?

and a bug i reported, while logged into my adfree site i see no Dolphin footers, but as soon as i logout, the footers are on my site.

clearly this is a bug, and i am almost sure it has something to do with the 6.1.3 patch but not sure how logging out would make them appear and logging in would make them disappear

i agree with Andrey and Sammie also its so help for our Artproject to give the Artists the choice where they select a Category (oil,watercolor etc.)

Any MEDIA customization should be expanded in the Admin --> Content Section and should build off of the Moderation Feature(s) which could also tie into Membership Levels. Providing control<-- At least from the Admin Side

--> Community Members should partcipate off of those levels,actions, preset MAIN/SUB category tree while having "basic" / "media albums" / controls in the SWF.

For instance: Upload Music to ROCK Category which either (MembershipLevels/Action) see more can be customize to ROCK --> subCat --> "Jonny'sRockBand Jams" or if no customized option is available then the folder which is created defaults to "Members Profile Name" I.e Jonny'sRockBandPage if they can NOT create a subfolder then it is place in the assigned subCAT which was identified in the ADMIN as a general MEDIA community folder.

This also might allow for creating "FEATURED" media which might be added as a tab in the BLOCKS.

Just some thoughts hope they spark some magic :)

can we get a list of what 5 you guys chose to build from the huge list?

We did like it on our website.
When you upload a file, you can choose a category in a list that the admin did throught admin.
Then you can change category by clicking on edit of course.
We add too a new menu mane category who help user to look for a media.
Website will be lauch end of week in beta, i will profide the url.

I think that one of the most wanted options for most of us is, that standard photo-video-music albums-subalbums is needed. For a dating site maby not so strong as for a Social networking site.

I have now buy and installed 4 mods to do that... Including advaged profile editing and Private photo albums. If this is standard then you have a very good package!!!

I use the free 6.1.2 version and have no problems. :)

I hope that two of the new features are also Photo Galleries and Multiple File Upload for Photos. These are two features that are sorely, sorely lacking for a social site. Lack of these features drives people away, especially when the giants like MySpace have such wonderful upload widgets which can upload many photos simultaneously to existing galleries, or you can even tell it to create a new gallery prior to upload, and it displays a progress bar as well. I had to purchase mods to take care see more of this for my site, but they are not great like the widget I mentioned, only passable.

Hi all. I think for music, admin might just be able to define some categories. But, if he has to define categories for videos, then there will be just too many. What I think should work in that case is tagging. These tags will be search able & also as you type in the search box, you will have tag suggestions popping down. Just like yahoo search engine.
Same way, as you upload your media & start entering your tags, the tag suggestions from already existing tags will start popping down. see more This might just avoid repetitions.
Also admin will be able to view all the tags all via admin section & moderate or alter if required.
Let me know what you all think of this ok.

The most annoying think with Media galleries is that:

- when a member is browing a profile and clicking in the submenu "Photos/Music or Video Gallery" he/she is kicking out of the profile he/she was browsing :-(
That's a real problem... The member who is browsing a profile is thinking that he/she will see the Photos/Music/Video gallery of the profile he/she is browsing.

To solve this problem is much more important than categories...

I'm using Aramis's mod Media Category since see more a while and most of my members don't select any category. If they do, this is often the first one, which is wrong of course :-))

We should have the ability to allow Admin only categories and an option if the admin wants to all users to create them.

- Should have subcategories of video music and photos.
- Ability to preserve aspect ratio of the video files while converting and playing also..
- Can you put a checkbox in video admin area to disable converting mpg file.

yes, i think if you are uploading media, it should most definetly be in a category. this just sets a standard for better structure across the site as a whole.

How about the ability to import/display all albums from a standard site like Flickr or Picasa. If the member has already uploaded pictures there, he/she will not be inclined to upload indiv pictures again by clicking on them. In this way, the millions of users with foto site accounts can become our customer easily.

Subcategory for video music and photos is very important.

Allow multi-categories insertion. For example, music could go into many categories when added.

Maybe have access control at admin end that allow registered user or public access.

Agree with all. Categories are must. They should be controlled via admin panel. Strong admin control in admin panel should be provided. Admin should be able to do all the required actions as mentioned in above comments.

Sub categories are not necessary. Instedad we should also have tags for videos and so a search option. And the search should also have the option to search with tags in a particular category.

And what about youtube videos? Please also add a feature to add youtube videos with see more youtube url.
