SooperStars. "Inverted" micro-blogging.

Last week we played with an idea and launched a new site - SooperStars.

SooperStars is like an inverted twitter. You don't post what you're up to or what you're going or where you are. Instead, you post these things about your friends. Quick test shows that it may be a lot more fun! In real life, very often we participate in conversations when everyone says "I" and "me" and "my" way too often. Try saying something about others and the whole talk becomes more interesting and engaging.

At SooperStars, you post notes like:

@max is at home, browsing Internet.

@julia is a gorgeous woman.

@alex spent 2 hours talking about network with me on the conference, he's really knowledgable.

etc.

Thus, when you see someone's profile you can see things that others know/think about this person, as opposed to what he says about himself. If you create your own profile and invite your friends, you'd be surprised with occasional notes about yourself. You can confirm notes about you or about others.

There's a more to it, but you'd better try it first. We even added a random video chat (ala Chatroulette) to discover new people and send notes about them.

Take it as a social experiment and a byproduct of some experimentation with software. If you like the way it works, let us know. If you don't, don't let us know :).

Let's try it right in this blog. I can say anything about anybody.... right?
Andrew Boon
You can say something about somebody at SooperStars. They should also be members there. It's moderated, of course, but more like twitter, only from gross violations :)
houstonlively
With no reprisals right? We can have a lot of fun with this!

I love it! Boonex 4 ever!

and - D7 - without the bugs - and - without functions strange - launched at what time

Using IE7, this is for sure the most ugly site I have seen since many years...
Andrew Boon
Just checked... Awful browser :D
tomakali
is that why D7 bug fixing, trident are backlagging?
Andrew Boon
It's not Trident. Sooperstars is based on 3rd party software. We just wanted to play with the idea without spending much time.

I use IE7 too, it looks horrible. I can't really say I like the domain name either. Also you will be completeing with the other 2000 sites that are trying to copy twitter..

Okay Andrew, next up, how about a SOOPERMARKET here? :)

Can we download this script as a dolphin?
DosDawg
lets get it integrated into Dolphin :)
liberty2
it would be better finish D7
houstonlively
Let's NOT get it integrated into Dolphin. Dolphin already has a stripped down wall.

I agree with the others on this thread that say you shoudn't be wasting your time - especially since a key dev seems to be getting a little distracted from the more pressing issue of fixing D7

Should have used D7 for this site, makes business sense - even for a trial run to see if it works as a site. Could have been good PR.
If you need any help Uno, let us know here! we should chat =)

Not to my taste really. The random chat could be a nice feature for dolphin. Chat Roulette has been around for years except just in text style. Anyone remember it on ICQ? It was a feature some 12 years ago I think.

I'm surprised, Andrew. I've never taken you for the one to use third party software over your own in-house work. Still, I thank you for choosing StatusNet for your microblogging solution, as it's by far the best choice out there.

This has encouraged me to continue my integration of StatusNet into Dolphin.

'uno' @alext is working on a new BoonEx project, which should change the web and the world. Hopes to launch "preview" tomorrow.

It looks to me like D7 is going to go the way of D5 & D6 now. D7 seems to be an afterthought. Figures

They have meds for ADHD now - fyi.
cbassthefish
@ Magnussoft. Is that your secret project that you mentioned? ;)
Nathan Paton
@cbassthefish: I wish.

Looks like a fun little project there, but I agree that it would have made more sense to use in-house software for this, as that would contribute to solutions Boonex can provide in the future. As it stands, I'm not quite certain what the exact point and purpose of this site is, especially when D7 development is still at the stage it is at.

In this vein, I'm also waiting for the day when Andrew finally upgrades the WordPress setup at andrewboon.com to use Boonex Blogs. =)
