I give up

my original "note" was removed already. I guess when you speak the truth here.. your quickly protected from the true flaws of this script. I originally have been complaining of a module creator and their flawed functions. But since I and others are seeing the real truth, you new people will be in for a good ride..

I can respect your decision to leave the Dolphin software and community if you wish. There are several people who have done the same thing due to complications they have encountered with Dolphin/Boonex. Its definitely a program that needs some attention, but It has come a long way from what it was.

Of course, one mistake we all have been guilty of is rushing out there and buying up a lot of 3rd party modules so our sites can do just about everything. Unfortunately, not all modules work very well see more together causing the site to become very unstable. Most complaints I have seen have all been about sites that are moderate/heavily modded website sites. Its a known fact that the more your alter the more risk you take.

With that said, I really hope that your decision (if it remains) to leave the dolphin project and community is not based on the issue related to 1 member here. You have helped alot of folks out here, so don't let one bad apple ruin what you have done for others and yourself here at Unity.

Newton, I took a break for a couple of years myself and ended up coming back. One lesson I learned is "Mo mods, mo problems". I only use mods now from the guys who actually work for Boonex, or ones I write myself which takes forever and sometimes don't turn out so good, lol. I guess what I'm trying to say is I feel your pain..

1. Sorry to see you go. Your participation and help has been invaluable and many other members enjoyed dealing with you.

2. I removed your original post, because it as merely a negative reaction without any specific suggestions, content or perspective. We have profile/product reviews sections for that and BoonEx Notes are not for public venting. If you're unhappy with a 3rd-party developer - talk to them, if you're unhappy with us - talk to us, if you want to talk to the entire community it has see more to be more than an emotional outburst to be kept published.

3. Things that may sound like "the truth" are very often just an opinion. Opinions matter, but there may be contradicting opinions that also matter. Badmouthing isn't in any way helpful for us or anybody else in finding a solution.

4. There're many ways to build business like BoonEx - they are in between of very tight control and chaos. We explore different combinations all the time trying to make things work smoothly. Every now and then there're issues. Constructive feedback helps and motivates us to find the ways to prevent them. BoonEx Market and modules from other developers are at a young stage where we're still trying to figure out the most effective policies. This kind of state assumes that clients need to do research and be careful. We are, however, working on a big transformation of current policies. Developers will be controlled a lot more.

5. Come and check back soon, it may be interesting enough to play again and we'd be very happy to have you around.

" If you're unhappy with a 3rd-party developer - talk to them"
your kidding right, beckmedia has totally cut me off because of my disputes and PROVING they did not work.
I have my updated news-feed module from him, at least he added that back to my "cart." As far as the Facebook template, I fixed it and still use it, I would never use another product from him again, EVER! The rudeness of that guy is beyond my comprehensions of true "customer service"
I have not see more given up, if your look at my profile, I do nothing but help here, for FREE. It seems that module creator and his company is, "too big to fail here," so again. I give up bitching and moaning in the forums about my module woes, I like Dolphin, just not all the add on's. I've learned much over the past two years here. I just hover now..

Don't give up, Newton! I really understand how you feel, but today you know mora than yesterday and you don't need to work with some people you know that is not professional. Start again and choose the right staff for your project and i am sure you will be successful.

@newton27...I feel you pain...but I have so many mods..and many mod developers. I have came to 1 conclusion (my opinion) that SOME mod developers

1) Do NOT test their mod good
2) I sometimes feel, they do it purposely so you can get back to them.

so as many of us, we only come to work with only few mod developers..those that we trust!!! and will be there for you when you website go down...

I also agree with you, because of mods, it will be very difficult to upgrade..So we are STUCK...So, see more I wish BoonEx does better job of migration/upgrade or easy transition for those website with mods.

good luck ..and I am here to pass you my recommendations!!! of who you work with!

2) I sometimes feel, they do it purposely so you can get back to them.

Good catch and you are right on my friend. I have purchased several mods and the ones that didn't work that I had to fix seemed to me to be boobe trapped in that manner. Sure I understand that errors can be made in coding, but some of the so-called errors I have found were so stupid in nature it almost seemed to be done intentionally. It's a hard case to prove, but I have made complaints to those few mod developers and even see more supplied them with the fix I made to get the mod to work properly and suggested that they use that fix to update the mod that others are downloading. Needless to say my repair efforts along with my suggestion wasn't greatly appreciated. I'm not sure why some developers are doing this to the mods they are selling on here other then they want your personal login info which should instantly raise a major red flag.

This is a great shame, but I don't blame you one bit. if I didnt have so much finance tied up in what I have already done then I too would be looking to go elsewhere. What with the lack of support, market imcompatbilities, untested modules, a lack of any real actions to put it right and the awfull spam and hacking problems.... its all far too much.

development of product should be a pleasure, but this is all too often a nightmare.

Take care, and good luck wherever you end up.
newton27
Thanks DRautenbach.. I'm staying here for simple sites. No new installs, have changed two sites to other CMS that are easier to maintain. Yes, the module situation is a joke. I do have to say, we have several GREAT module developers that support, communicate, and update their mods.
Nightmare it is, I'm now just waiting to see how all this gets "swept under the rug" when D8 comes. lol
The poor souls that purchased so many modules are going to be left hanging.
The past year has been see more a roller coaster ride to say the least..

I can honestly say I feel your pain as I run 92 mods on my site which actually I have purchased more and some are just plain broken which is why I have lost my temper with a few of those "so-called" developers and told them what I really thought about their shotty work. I have even had to go in and fix a bakers dozen of the mods myself just to get them to work properly. My thought is simple...if you're going to develop a product and then turn around and sell that product and take peoples see more money then you need to A. make sure your product works 100% or even 95%, B. Give support for your product if it fails because you had no problem taking the money for it and C. BE HONEST! I've noticed in the coding of some of these mods I've purchased that things have been done on purpose to ensure the mod doesn't work.

I think this is major BS and Boonex needs to address this type of action simply because if you buy a mod and don't know how to fix it if it's boobe trapped then your only choice is to turn to the developer of that mod and the first thing they want is all your login info to your server, website and SQL. I think this is a very unsafe procedure and if you have to give this level of access then you need to make sure that you use all temp accounts on the server and website so after they have finished fixing what they made sure wouldn't work from the start, then you can delete their access off your server and website.

In reality you shouldn't let a few dimwits force you out of using what you want. Dolphin is a great platform when done right and sure like anything else in this world it isn't perfect and it comes with strings attached, but if you know how to trim it up then you can have one fine presentation in the end. :)

Okay so spam and hacking plays threats to your Dolphin community site. I run a Dolphin 7.0.6 website and when I first started building the site the first thing I did was activate the spam control which worked very well. One night while I was working on my site a spammer actually found my site setup an account and attempted to spam my blogs area. Unfortunately he soon discovered that after pressing the post button the spam blog was instantly deleted from the site and his attempt to spam was emailed see more to me and I blocked his account. Soon after that I kicked my site security up a couple notches and I haven't had one spam account on my site since. It is very easy to prevent known spam and hack servers from viewing your website and you can also take further action to prevent these types of attacks. A community site that has tons of spam accounts on it is a major turn-off to any new member viewing your site. This is why I made it virtually impossible for any spammer to register on my site. I can run my Dolphin 7.0.6 site carefree now and build a quality community in the process without having to worry about getting spam or hack attacks. So in conclusion for those of you who are dealing with this issue if you need help I can offer you my services in securing your website from this kind of BS and then you will see an improvement in quality and you won't have to be deleting and/or doing IP blocks all day. You can spend time actually marketing your website. :)
newton27
if your running 7.0.6 you have a big security bug you need to attend to! Read your recent mail from Boonex

Guys, wheen you talking about 3rd party developers please be concrete name them. If you talking I only cooperate with three developers that are cooperating ...go ahead and give out names, if you say I have mods which are not working name that devs, if you say I have mods from dev who not support name him...so all we know.
Andrew: WIth all respect u should leave older Newton post here and leave it on community who read it or not and what opinion people make. If we start with a censorship at that see more level its not good. Its okay to delete spam posts, rude and unpolite posts but newton posts wast either spam or rude or unpolite - oit was just his point of view...
naluv4u2
