Not worth the trouble

Ive been building community websites for some time now and have to say that dolphin is one of the worst scripts ive used...
WHY?
Upon install i ran into major error issues, the install instructions didnt help at all.
Once i got it installed i was pretty shocked at the volume of linkbacks and branding all over the site.
I mean on the front page theres a huge module of boonex blog posts>!!?
Im building a community for my members and none of them know what boonex is let alone how to code script etc etc.
this script isnt anything special by any means, you can compile the same functionality with free open source scripts.
DOLPHIN may be free but what good is it if all you see on any page is links back to the developer site, or pay for AD-FREE?
the branding is out of hand and renders the script useless.

you can modify the images under basic settings, hey just look around before you go judge it, I think it's sweet, nothing worth doing is easy, you have to work at it, there are a few bugs but if you look around you'll find that people will help you with them, if you're to cheap to pay the 100 bucks than that's your problem, I just don't mind that they want to make some money off of their work.

Anyway.

Peace

here's my two bits.
I've had a few issues with Dolphin. As I learned more I realised that some of those issues were my lack of experience in installing. On the whole I think the Dolphin scripts, especially 6.1 is great. Boonex have done a fantastic job! My only criticism is the amount of advertising, they have gone over the top on that. Especially when you check out the faq and the amount of advertising there. Thanks to msscott for updating that one!
On the whole I think Boonex rock!

One suggestion to boonex.
Remove the php code from .htaccess and put it in a php.ini file. With many servers now having suPHP installed this causes a server 500 error.

Keep up the good work!

I see and hear what everyone says about the "default content" placed in Dolphin when installed.

Its the same as the "demo" content placed in Joomla, or mambo, Drupal, etc..

And no, I am not talking about the AD's, those are specific, but items and links in NEWS, FAQS, etc are place holders, and I can bet, if they were not there, we would be seeing alot more post on what, were and how to add those items.

At min, I see that this makes people look at the program, and do some work in making it theres, instead of just plopping there name on it and going.

Part of owning or running your own site, is to make it yours, so spend a couple hours of doing such.

exactly my point, but how is the site mine when the feel and look is plastered with ads to unity or boonex? I dont want my members going to boonex or unity because they are not coders they are coming to my site for the service I provide.

my main complaint is the advertising, way too much!
for half the price to remove the ads i can buy a script that will do the exact same thing and still have money for beer.

the script is great the ads are crap
