Who do you host with?

I already know this topic is going to get all kinds of pseudo spam. I think a lot of us are in the same boat, weve had an idea for some website, usually have a conversant knowledge in front page, iweb etc. thought wed give this dolphin thing a try and now were knee deep in mysql databases, bug errors and hosting issues(and to cap it off very little support).I know,I know there those of you who do this for a living or at least profess to on this forum and your going to recommend dedicated servers or some plan for 20 or 30 bucks a month and if I want to play with the big boys using dolphin Im going to have to bite the bullet and sink some cash in this. Ive had hostmonster so far unlimited for 6.95 a month and that worked great, however I had to move it(long story). So if you have got your site up and running its a great option.I currently have IXwebhosting for $7.95 a month, customer service is great, however Ive gone through 1 month 7 or 8 blog posts and hours on the customer service line trying to get things up only to find they don't support ray. After 2 months of messing around with this a few hours a day Im tired, I would love to buy some new hosting package that can upload my site, have them get it running  and pay the same amount Im currently paying and be done with it.  Anybody want to post who your with and how much you pay and if your site works PERFECTLY or at least somewhere close.

I use bluehost.com. They must meet the right specs, cuz I don't have hosting issues (except for commenting out the one line in the .htaccess file that it seems everyone is doing)

Hey Bro,
I went through 6 hosts , thousands of bucks and I finially found someone here on the forum who has a hosting company. I average 20 bucks a month, I have zero issues. I use CyberXing, they have responded to me on all issues, even when they were caused by me. I have to give them a thumbs up.

Many hosts just can't handle dolphin. Some can but barely or you run into a bunch of problems. One of the biggest time and money savers you can do is find one known to work with dolphin from the beginning if possible. Even some more spendy hosts wont be able to handle it unless you have vps where you control everything. I would avoid the real cheap ones if possible. One in particular comes to mind godaddy great for domain registrations and html hosting, not so good for dolphin.

Anyway if you get a chance to checkout this site I just started to put together:
dialme.com
Once there find the hosting link for dolphin recommended hosting. The site is barely getting started but there is some basic info up and running.

Good luck

Check out www.hide-a-bed-thailand.com you will find a link on there for the people who I host my Dolphin site (www.asia-connect-th.com) with. They supply ffmpeg etc. and Ray Chat and Orca forums together with Shoutbox work well.

Hostmonster.com = unlimited web space, unlimited bandwith compatible with dolphin, ssh access for $6.95 mo

they do not allow ffmpeg to run on their servers because it is too proccessor intensive so you will need Cyberxing rms

Hostmonster DOES allow ffmpeg to run... ffmpeg is what converts the videos to flv when you upload them. I think you are thinking of RMS, which no shared hosting is going to allow.. so you do need Cyberxing for that.

We looked at a number of options for ours, and due to the fact that our site is principaly a web-chat site, we had to go for some serious iron over at serverbeach. BUT, for what we pay, we are getting some GREAT hardware (dedicated quad-core servers with lots of memory for running our Macromedia Flash Server) and dual 1000 MB pipes with unlimited bandwidth usage. This has allowed us to not only have fast cams and great voice quality, but we can seamlessly run our internet readio server from it as well. We generally use about 1 to 3% of the CPU during peak hours with lots of users online in camchat and tuned in to our radio station. If you HAVE to have rock-solid performance from your site, a good dedicated server host is a must. Since our switch from GoDaddy a while ago, we've experienced nothing but FANTASTIC results. Oh, and for a few dollars more, you can have your site cached on 17 other servers worldwide so that your members can connect to the closest local server to them... a HUGE plus as your site grows.

i host all my projects with www.substormmedia.com they have been hosting my stuff since 2003. since i do a lot of work with them (they host about 20 sites i have developed over the years) I get free hosting for my personal design site. good people, small low key vibe, and great customer service. no site issues to date. I currently have 2 dolphin sites (3rd one i am working on now) running with no server issues.

They arn't one of those unlimited everything for 2bucks websites... but i just like a hosting company that works and don't mind paying for peace of mind.
