![]() | Technoman - take some time to try Ubuntu - you might be pleasantly surprised. You don't even need to install it on your system - It will run from the CD | ![]() |

![]() | You're asking the wrong question, the right question to ask is how many rootkits exist for linux. The reason you're asking the wrong question is about market share. Nobody wants to write a virus or worm for a target with less than 10% market share. | ![]() |

![]() | But what's the truth? For every claim in this blog there is so far, a Linux fanclub that has addressed nothing to what my blog states, ( Windows is cheaper than Linux )! | ![]() |

![]() | "Only someone smart--and therefore expensive--can manage Linux security." There in lies the problem with your argument. Whilst there are many self-taught administrators out there the comparable quality for a certified microsoft trained support person is vast and in the end whether your MS certified or have a RH or Debian Badge you should be paying much the same regardless on an hourly basis. Both can be remote updated, and both can be auto update. Pretty much cancels out the support costs more argument and comes back to initial price.... | ![]() |

![]() | The biggest is in security servers, where Linux systems cost $91,000 over five years and Windows systems cost $70,000. Next comes print jobs, where a Linux server cost $107,000 over five years and a Windows server cost $87,000. In file sharing, Linux cost $114,000 to Windows' $99,000. In Web site jobs, Linux was less expensive at $31,000 to Windows' $32,000. Windows is cheaper in the long run. | ![]() |

![]() | Ok, call me stupid if you want, but after reading through all these three blogs about linux V windows, all its left me feeling is " Erm So what!" each to his own i guess but windows is know to be bloaty, virus filled and rubbish.... Its just a known fact, and the reason that most have to use it is because we have no choice to run most programmes we want, linux, although ive never used it, is known to be quick and easy on the hardware... Seems to be the biggest exercise that these blogs have achieved, is for the blogger to be able to sit there and give himself thumbs up in all these post... 11 positive votes and only one voter..... PLEASE... Lame or what LOL | ![]() |

![]() | I mean its like comparing cars here ... We all know we Pay more for Honda but with Honda we get what we pay for and much more .... In the End Honda you hardly see in the garages for repaires Now thats a fact! * just like a Windows Operating System *! Now for Honda the ONLY time you see it in the garage is ofr its regualar maintance. Now Alot of you who cant afford that extra money to dish out for a better name car are stuck to buy a cheaper car like the ford, thats fine but guess who will have there car continue to be going to the garage every 2nd week after it starts to break down for all different reasons, now that adds up much much more in the end for all the repairs .... Fords you see all over the side of the roads waitting for that towing truck .... * just like a Linux Distro * In the end its not who you know, its what you know. | ![]() |

![]() | well.. in the end.. 1000 ppl studied, not really enough to validate it and no source quoted again reducing its credibility. If they'd asked me, someone who has administered both windows and linux networks, large and small, its pretty clear which way I lean and not just for the cost factor. Im not trying to bash windows and yes I do use it still on one of the desktops. I actually have 3 desktops all up one for each, mac, linux and windows and I probably use the mac and windows more out of the 3. Server wise however I just cant see it. | ![]() |
