Tehchnical Requirements for Dolphin Ray Orca

Technical Requirements

Dolphin requires the following pre-requisites for your server:

  • Linux/Unix (Red Hat, Debian, FreeBSD, Mandrake, etc.) or Windows OS, Apache Web Server
  • Ability to run executable files (necessary for ffmpeg.exe)
  • root SSH access (necessary for RMS installation)
  • PHP 4.3.6 and higher (safe_mode must be Off, exec() must be allowed and allow_url_fopen also must be On) with mbstring, domxml and xsl extensions (they are required to run Orca forum and support UTF-8)
  • Sendmail or Postfix
  • shell or another interface for setting Cron Jobs
  • 20MB of disk space and 1MB of MySQL DB space for installation
  • 8MB of disk space and 50KB of MySQL DB space for an average user

Otherwise you will not be able to install and operate Dolphin properly.

i am posting this as i see a lot of issues getting written about where users are installing this on servers where the server is not configured to run this software. yes it is much differenty requirements than most portals that we come across. however, boonex makes it clear that you will not be able to operate Dolphin properly without meeting these basic requirements.

this is not the only script that requires you to modify the server. i am currenlty fighting a battle with a script called php my directory, which requires ioncube to be installed as part of its encryption components. so this is not out of the ordinary for specialty scripts.

if you are not allowed access to restarting apache, or opening ports, or starting and stopping processes. you are on the wrong host, if you intend on being successful at running this script.

if you support has a problem working with you on this, then you are with the wrong host. if you feel you are with the right host, then you could possibly be trying to use the wrong script.

i see just a few having issues with the orca forum not running and getting the message that XSLT processor is not available. listen guys, that is a problem orca will not run without the correct components. there are solutions to this if you are not interested in being on a vps or dedicated box. you can integrate phpbb i think it is as your forum solution, and be done with the whole ajax forum.

hope this has helped some of you.

Below is the legacy version of the Boonex site, maintained for Dolphin.Pro 7.x support.
The new Dolphin solution is powered by UNA Community Management System.
