how do i get more blocks on a page?

Hi,

In Account Home, through Builders>Page Blocks, how do I add more Inactive Blocks like an Avatar pic to the page?

Thanks.

Not easy. Putting a block that exists on one page into another requires that you find the block in the database and make a copy of it for the page you want it on.

However, some blocks are page specific which meens they won't work when placed on other pages. And some will. Thats one of the reasons they are not already there.

Avatar Pic is not a page block i am aware of.

Perhaps we might be able to help a bit more if you were to specify exactly which block from what page you want to place on what page. And please actually lookup the name of these blocks and pages in page builder befor hand. Reason is becuse Avatar Pic is not a page block.

Hey Deano,

"Add New Avatar" would be a smart block addition to Account Home. Sorry if i'm fumbling... I'm new.

Thanks for your help.

The Add New Avatar block is specific to the avatar page. It will not work if placed on any other page.

Damn! You have to admit, it would fit perfect fit for that page though...

Thanks for letting me borrow your brain.

the easiest way would be to add a html block in

admin panel - page builder - select your page you want - pull new html block to the position you like

and add a link to /m/avatar/ in it.

Would that mean the Avatar feature would display the avatar block, or would there be an actual hyperlink to the Avatar block?

Thanks ue30.

Deano or others... maybe the Avatar request made this challenging.  Let's simplify it...

How do I add the 'SoundsFeatured' block to the 'Sample Blocks' of the 'Articles Home' Page?

For the ultimate extra credit but not to muddy the waters...

How do I add [any Sound with Tags that match the Article's Tags] to the 'Sample Blocks' of the 'Articles Home' Page?

You don't. You don't put any of the built in blocks into a samples section.

As for other blocks. Rule of thumb. Most blocks that are type Special Block usually cannot be copied to other pages. And why? Because most all of those are page specific. Meaning that were written for use on that page and rely on functions that are part of that page for them to function.

Dolphin has a number of built in blocks of type PHP, HTML and RSS blocks which usually can be put on other pages. And the only way to do it is to copy the table entry for it in the database setting the page field for the page it is to go on.

For example. The following blocks of of type PHP and should be able to be put on any page.

Shoutbox
Public Photos
Public Files
Public Sounds
Public Videos
Feedback.

These are a few from the home page alone. There are dozens of others.

As for why they cannot be copied to the sample area is due to how the sample functions. It would require i write a book to explain why, so i won't. I am not even sure to could explain it in a way that would be understandable.

For those who may be interested. I am developing a module to make this and a number of other block related things easier to do. Hope to have it out in a week or so.
