I can't find any documentation

ddevore posted 13th of March 2008 in Community Voice. 13 comments.
I am trying to setup a site and I can't find any documentation on how to run this stuff. I need documentation on admining, modifying, customizations, themes, and developing modules.

Any help to find information on the above topics is appreciated.

The only document in the boonex.com link is a faq which is basically useless. I did see at one time some docs listed at the expertzzz site but they were all 404.

I really need documents describing how do do some of the more beginner to moderate tasks. I will have too many questions right now to put them all in www.askboonex.com

No adequate support is available for novice users. There is no beginner's manual. The Boonex scripts are in constant flux. New updates every month require programmers and webmasters to constantly relearn the program and no documentation department could possibly keep up. Your best bet for info is the forums at Expertzzz.com

This would be find but I can't use the Expertzzz.com forums unless I pay for it. Now I see why there is not documentation.

you can use use expertzzz.com forums, but you have to select the one that is not dedicated to contributors. contact me with your basic questions. the forum over on expertzzz.com is full of some good information. most questions have been asked ten or fifteen times, and the users over there dont even know how to use a forum, and use the search function before firing off their one of a kind question of course. most all issues with dolphin that you will run into have been addressed on the forum. the see more contributor forum is not much different, so wouldnt necessarily spend money just to be able to acccess that forum.

i have been a contributor but not for access to the forum, but because there were some specials ran, and it was cost effective to make the purchase.

Thanks but it still won't let me in.

I am trying to access any of the Dolphin forums and this is what I see.

"You don't have rights to see these pages.

To see them you must Login firstly and Become a Conrtibutor if you are still not one of them yet."

I am logged in and have tried multiple times to login using the login link in the message.

I wouldn't have a problem becoming a contributor if I thought it was worth it but at this point I am wondering if Dolphin is even worth see more it. At this rate by the time I get it installed and working the way I want it I would have been able to write my own :)

I must say that I do like the sites based on it though I am doing just about the exact opposite of a dating site, which has lead me to a lot of questions. They are not hard and most of them should be easy enough to answer, likely they have already been answered in the forums, I just have to get into the forums to see and ask.
Stop trying to access the Contributor forums, select the ones to the left.

Write your own what ?

write my own community software.

I see the confusion now. I didn't see the difference in the two forums. That was confusing because there is little distinction between the two lists.
"Write my own community software"

and a few paragraphs up you were asking

"I really need documents describing how do do some of the more beginner to moderate tasks. I will have too many questions right now to put them all in www.askboonex.com"

I assume that was a joke ??
ddevore
No, it wasn't a joke. Just because I don't know how to work with this software doesn't mean that I can't write software. Actually I write software for a living I just didn't want to spend the time reinventing the wheel.

But you can atkeast give some time for understanding dolphin...it won't take months to understand it...
ddevore
Yes, I agree that is what I am trying to do but I am finding it frustrating with some things.

For instance I want to make a custom block/module with php/html and put it in multiple areas but I have been unable to find how to do this and make a block out of it that will be available in multiple build areas. I could make a new block but it is only available in one area (profile or main) and I have to put the html in the database. Can't I make a simple php/html page and make a module around it? or see more a simpler way of making the needed changes in the database.

This is just an example of what I am trying solve. There are a lot of changes I need and don't want to ask a lot of questions when what I am looking for should be fairly easy.

Below is the legacy version of the Boonex site, maintained for Dolphin.Pro 7.x support.
