I still have a few D6 sites that I am maintaining and several flavors of D7 with custom code (with some I am currently grappling with). The introduction of modules in Dolphin 7 was a very good idea and like Joomla, it was one of the things that has contributed to its longevity. You are right about Joomla 1.5, I have few of those sites as well. There are a lot of innovative things being created with D7 in the background that is currently stretching the limits of its core, so I am looking forward see more to Dolphin 8.
