Video Upload error idea?

I have been reading and submitting to issues with uploading video and getting the Alert Undefined message.

After reading the troubleshooting guidelines that I had found, On step 1-3 is says,

**You have the correct .htaccess file but it gets overridden by other Apache settings on your server. You should contact your hosting provider in this case.

I did get a hold of my hosting service support and there IS a timeout of 60 seconds that can not be changed unless it is a dedicated server.  Damn!

Ok, now that I know that maybe there is a different way to upload the videos and still be available to view as all the other do?

Can one just upload it via FTP and put it in manually rather than use the video uploader?
