Love the idea, can this be tweaked for 7.0.9?

Yes, It is compatible with 7.0.x versions :)

I edited those files in the instructions, but the site went blank.  So I've undone that.

The module is installed though, not sure if it's working without those file edits.

Version was updated. New corrections for compatibility with all jquery versions were done.

Instructions:

5) Edit file modules\boonex\messenger\classes\BxMsgModule.php
Find function getMessenger($iSndId, $sSndPassword, $iRspId)
       and at the beginning of this function add the next code:

So I put:

You need to insert the code AFTER the next lines

Function begins from the first "{" symbol after a function's name :)

I think, it would be better to correct installation instructions for users who are not familiar with php also.

No big thing at all, but you may want to update 'version' => '1.0.0',  to 'version' => '1.0.1',
