Dolphin 7.4 (Legacy) Released

Andrew Boon posted 11th of February 2019 in Dolphin.pro News. 9 comments.

After a long wait, our legacy platform - Dolphin 7 receives a much-needed update. The most important improvements are PHP7 compatibility (minimal supported PHP version is now 5.4.0), user-data export (for GDPR compliance) and iframe embeds for Audio and Video. Additionally, over 60 issues have been addressed.

Note, that from now on we'll be referring to Dolphin 7 as a "legacy" platform, meaning that it is considered outdated, but is still supported. It will further be supported until an UNA-based Dolphin is released with an improved update/upgrade path.

Note, that it is best to check if your 3rd party modules would work with this version before updating a live site. You may either inquire with the module developers or try this version on a staging site.

Note that they included legacy in the 7.4 post. @Andrew Boon and the Boonex Team. Dolphin is not a legacy platform; you continue to alienate the Dolphin community in any way possible. Do you really think doing so is going to make us feel all warm and fuzzy about UNA? What it is doing is driving people completely away from Boonex the company.

Our plans is to fork Dolphin with or without your blessing Andrew Boon. Are you ready to take us to court?

We don't want an UNA based "Dolphin". Can't you understand that Andrew? UNA is a crapy plaform with an even worst crapy backend. You will end up driving your company into the ground.

Dolphin is not a legacy platform. Dolphin 7 is, which means that it is still supported and updated, but not recommended for new projects. The new UNA-powered Dolphin is the much needed update of the architecture designed nearly 20 years ago.

Forking Dolphin 7 under current license terms would require end-clients to obtain a license from Boonex, which is also bound by other co-licensing commitments as well as interchange commitment with UNA Pro account. Your end-clients may be at risk of violating see more multiple licensing terms if you fork without appropriate consent and consultation.

If you want to contribute to the development and improvement of Dolphin 7, you can fork it on GitHub and request to commit your changes back to the platform - we would then be able to review them to ensure that quality and security is maintained.

I have been away (due to family issues) for about 1.5 years after I made a license purchase of Dolphin.Pro on 14.01.18, and what I found out was that it is now a 'legacy' version.

I really want to know how my license is being transferred to the UNA base "Dolphin". Andrew, could you please clarify for me please?

Below is the legacy version of the Boonex site, maintained for Dolphin.Pro 7.x support.
The new Dolphin solution is powered by UNA Community Management System.
