Suart038, I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but everything you have been reading is apparently incorrect.

MySQL is free, open source software under an open source license, and Oracle has never announced any intention to change this. They also would never remove it from distribution, or development in favor of their own database products, since the database software is used by a majority of scripts and software. Also, MySQL is not in competition with Oracle's other products, since they all service see more different needs.

Cisco was not in there right-up until Oracle, as you are thinking of IBM. After negotiations with IBM fell-through, Oracle offered their own deal for the purchase of the company,
