Recent facebook API changes. A big mess to follow.

Facebook has made some changes recently that will affect most facebook connect modules and modules that use facebook features. Especially mine considering the number of features it has.

I have taking my FB connect mod out of the market until i can rewrite it. I have posted a couple of messages on my products support forum about this.

These issues only affect those people who have created new facebook developer apps for keys after April 30'th. Anyone with older keys will not be affected. Yet anyway.

I am really beginning to hate facebook.

It's going to take us all a while to update depending on the number of extended permissions our mods require and how many features are used. It could take a couple of weeks or more for some modules. Facebook has really screwed us over.

You should made us aware of it :) Can you PM us the site access and we will take a look...

We have been supporting the Facebook API for over 3 years now and keeping up with their frequent API changes has been a big challenge for us as well. I am glad Mark  Z has recognized the need for a "Stable Mobile Platform"  which basically would offer a 2-year API stability guarantee to the developers.

Ok. This is not going to be a difficult as i had originally thought. I should have a update within a day or two. However there will be an approval process that anyone creating new app keys will have to go though to get most of the features working. Anyone who has a older set of keys created before April 30'th 2014 will have until April 30'th 2015 to go though the approval process. The biggest difference will be in my documentation and the list of features that will not work until your app has been approved by facebook. I'll keep you posted.

Oh, and also the hole that was mentioned by geek_girl in this post http://www.boonex.com/forums/topic/This-time-it-is-oAuth-and-OpenID.htm can be closed. Facebook has an additional security section that can be filled out that can lock your keys to a specific server and the redirect back to your site from fb can also be locked to a specific authorized URI to prevent redirect attacks. All of that will be in my new tutorial vids.
