Backup Options

Hi,

With all this hacking and craziness going on I'm interested as to what the experts recommend for backing up your sites. I know Dolphin has a database backup facility, but how exactly do you do the overall backup?

  • Do you simply backup the database to your computer?
  • Do you backup all your files too? And how often?
  • Do you keep a separate backup site running somewhere?
  • If you do have a separate backup site do you keep it on your computer ready to upload?
  • Or do you have a separate folder at your regular host?
  • Or do you rent a second separate shared server at your host?
  • Or do you go even further and have a 2nd site running on a separate server on a completely separate host?

I know the last option would be the safest but how many of you actually go that far? Or is there anything else that you do?

I'm interested in what everyone does?

Cheers

Max

Max,

If you use a host that has "Cpanel" it is easy.. just login Cpanel and click "backup" and then "full backup". That will zip EVERYTHING, your databases, files, email accounts.. EVERYTHING. It will even send you a nice email when it's done :-)

Then just ftp the .gz file to your computer and burn it on a CD or DVD.. done!
