Broken Record - Membership Types

Is Boonex planning on addressing Membership types upon initial sign up in a release anytime soon? Right now, the Promotional and Standard types are inadequate and requiring developers to force members to change their membership type after they join a site is unreasonable. Even with that function, I have yet to figure out how to allow members to move from one free membership type to another free membership type. It only appears to allow members to purchase memberships even if the price is set to ZERO.

The mods out there are fine and dandy but why pay extra for something that should be a core function. Developers should be able to set up membership types that visitors can choose from when they initially join the site. I have spent a ridiculous amount of time looking at the code to resolve this issue. If one member can figure it out using Dependencies why can't Boonex follow the lead and incorporate that code into its core product?

Probably the wrong forum for this but I want to bring wide attention to this serious deficiency.

I've been trying to set a new website with Dolphin. I have a functioning website for almost two years now and in the original version of Dolphin 7 adding a new membership type and setting up all kinds of permissions was in the core. When did it get broken and who had the brilliant idea to remove it?!?

One thing I know for sure now - I was planning on upgrading my existing website to 7.0.2 soon - no way Jose.

When people sign up for the site there are mods out there that allow you to select membership type. These membership types use dependencies which change the information they can fill out. Even though you enable multiple membership types, in my case, 9 types of membership, new members are not given the option of choosing their membership type. They can only change their membership type after signing up. And then, these memberships are only PURCHASABLE even though the PRICE is set to zero.

Why can't a member choose different FREE memberships on sign up and just as important, change their membership after sign up if it is free?

Well, I got an official response from Alex T. on Membership Types and Dependent Fields. This is set for Dolphin 8 now. Ridiculous! It was originally promised for Dolphin 7 based on a thread from a year ago. I guess keeping their developers FAT with $$ from selling mods is more important than keeping the user community happy.

When ever we need something fixed that is important to us, it is ALWAYS passed on to the next release. Good luck with this. Day you must have used a different Dolphin, 7 has not been out for 2 years. I still say and stand by my prediction that the next release of D7 will NOT be this month but NEXT month instead. And don't expect the next release to be perfect and/ or that most things will run smoothly or work properly. That is a running joke around here. I have been here since 2006 and still waiting for a decent script. I think they are spending most of their time on the script that people have to purchase to use and not so much D7.
