Custom template creation

I have a task to create complex layout for community site. Page builder doesn't suit my needs.. I've created custom template in page1.html (which stands for home page layout as far as I understand). Now I need to find out how to call a custom function (such as the news, polls, photo gallery and so on) for this my template. I've tried to incert "__language_key" in code but that was a wrong guess.. Can someone advise? Thanks!

can you point me to this template file pls? in page1.html I can see only two tags: promo code and main page..
