EmmetBytes Modules

Hello everyone,

This is the owner of the account emmetbytes. I used to build modules on this site about 2 years ago, but unfortunately I haven't been able to keep up due to my health issues.

Anyway, if someone here is interested on continuing those modules that I had created you can go to https://github.com/ebytes01/boonex-modules and fork those modules.

Apologies to everyone that were affected.

Thanks for the great mods you've given the Dolphin community in the past and I hope your health improves.

Thank you too @TravelNotes. It was a nice time working with you also. And sorry for the troubles.

I am sorry to hear of your health issues.  You offered some nice modules and the community will miss your input.

@geek_girl. Thank you. If you are interested on continuing those modules please feel free to do so. Although I am not quite sure if it is still compatible with the latest version but I guess I had put some codes in there that would let you edit just a fraction of the code for the new versions? Some "if statements" for checking the versions. Hopefully someone would continue those modules.

I am not sure I have the time to work on open source modules to release back to the community.  However, when I have the time I might look at what needs to be done for the latest Dolphin versions.  I don't care for the Boonex profile cover approach; your approach was much better.

@geek_girl Thanks again. Maybe you can fork it and sell it on this site if you can implement something that was not done on the cover? I don't really mind.

Anyways, I might not be logging back to this site again. Thanks to everyone and apologies to the problems that I had caused.

It would be nice for the Profile Cover to work. Maybe Boonex could use the source to improve their own product.

@TravelNotes - Hopefully someone would change the codes if it is not working on the current version right now.

@ProfessorSr - Yeah, you can use it in any way that you wanted. I don't really mind at all.

@Rusty. Thanks and God Bless you too.

What is your module priority? Which do you need first folks?

To get Profile Cover working properly with Dolphin 7.3 would be a great start.

Dolphin's version of a Profile Cover, in a full column block, is pixelated and a terrible attempt at making the profile page more personal.

Wow. I'd be very keen on this. I've started now on "user land" review of the website and after a week into it, the one thing which pointed out like a soar thumb was how the profile cover wasn't workable. Lack of drag and centering, etc just made it difficult to understand.

If you need a tester for this paansystems, on 7.3 of course, please let us know.

Hi Paan. Looking at demo, good work.

I want to query though, with the cover of "facebook wasting peoples lives", can you edit that to move it up and down, left and right, etc to position it the way you want?

This is the biggest problem with the default Dolphin one, that you can't adjust it.

The demo you have doesn't have any login, so I can't test this myself.

Please advise. Thanks.

So you decided to take EmmetBytes' module that he donated to the community and create a paid module from it.  I don't know the license that EmmetBytes released the modules under and that would be important here.  If under open source, then your module would have to be the same.

Geeks, making the world a better place

The price of the module is simply absurd, you should ask for a symbolic price and not a price as if you had done the entire module.

Simply absurd.

If i understand it right, EmmetBytes dont mind at all what is happening with his sourcecode.

The reason for making it a paid module is that i want to give support in the future and also want to add some functionality to the module by time.

If you dont like it that way, dont buy it, sorry ... you always have the possibility to update the original sourcecode so it is working with 7.3.0 ... good luck ;)

I purchased the module once and won't be paying for it again, especially as the code is theoretically 'Open Source'.

The least you should do is honour those who already have the module and possibly encourage donations for new downloads.

Well, I thought I'd take a closer look.

If anyone has the original module, just follow the EmmetBytes install_7.1.0-7.1.5.txt notes very carefully and you should be able to get the module to work (although I haven't tried the upload yet).

Working Example.

There are a couple of instances where you need to think things out a little and compare very carefully (some things have changed slightly).

Back-up the files you need to change before you start!

I'll look back at the instances I had to think carefully about and make a new installation notes text file available to those who are interested - free of charge but with no guarantees.

A little PayPal donation would be appreciated but not required.

If anyone has the module installed but can't get it to work since upgrading, I have completed the Installation Notes to make Profile Cover module by emmetbytes compatible with Dolphin 7.3.

Message me with your website URL and e-mail address if you would like the text file.

Hi Paansystems. Firstly, let me thank you for taking the time to update the module and provide support for it. Of course, everyone is entitled to their own opinion so there's no benefit in picking sides.

From my end, I appreciate both responsive developers and a responsive community that makes the effort to make things better for the main product as a whole. I fully understand the need to charge for it for future support and possible upgrades.

Because I haven't dealt with you or your modules before, I will review your ratings, history and user comments to make sure that any money paid to you is of value and won't be wasted in future upgrades of Dolphin.

Ideally of course, it would make more sense to add this module into Dolphin core, since the original developer released it as open source, there should be nothing stopping Boonex from doing this.

The default profile cover that comes with Dolphin is basic at best and adding Emmet's code would save them development costs (no need to re-invent the wheel) and allow the community to have this as core functionality supported by Boonex for all future upgrades.

If i understand it right, EmmetBytes dont mind at all what is happening with his sourcecode.

The reason for making it a paid module is that i want to give support in the future and also want to add some functionality to the module by time.

Let's hope they do.

There's really not much work involved to get it working with Dolphin 7.3, although Boonex might need to keep the module path structure in place for those who have already bought and installed Profile Cover by emmetbytes.

Hi Michel. Already had a quick message with Alex about this, they won't, they'll just continue to develop their internal one.

Let's hope they do.
