Link external site on navigaton menu

I'm sorry, I am having a brain freeze.  How do I add an external site to the navigation menu?  Is the only way by making a page and html block with an iFrame?  I have a Google Docs document that will change frequently that I want to have as a link.

Enter the full URL of the site for the menu item's URL.  URL.  URL.  That sentence felt odd.

No, when I enter the full url I get  http://mysite.com/http://theurl-I-want.com

If you don't know, you don't have to answer.   Anyone know how to do this?

are you really adding http:// in the link or just typing here?

I was really entering it in.  That url is an example of what it looks like.  Is the only way to do this with an iFrame?

Rob,

I just tried it on my test site and it works. I put in the full URL complete with http:// and it opens the external site up normally when clicked. It's a 7.0.7 install with no mods so I'm not sure what the difference is.

Just for the heck of it rename your .htaccess to something else and see if the link works then.

Thanks for responding guys

@Prashank  - yes, it looks like that

@msscott - I tried that - no change.

Here is the site http://VirtualBrainTrust.org

The right most menu item "knowledge base" and the first dropdown "document index" is where the problem is. See what happens to the url?

Nice to see you here again, by the way.

Thanks, good to see you too.  I couldn't stay away from this place, lol.

I have an answer for you. Apparently Dolphin looks at links and checks for "http://" to see if it's external or not. But it DOESN'T check for "httpS://"... this is all just a theory but what makes me think it is I took your link and put it on my test sites menu and it did the same thing it's doing on your site.. so I took the "s" out of https and it worked correctly.. the GOOD news is that Googledocs forwards http:// requsts to https:// so if you post the link going to the http:// version it should work out. Oh and I think your link has one too many "t"s on the end too.

Let me know if it works..

Well, thanks msscott - creative solution - you are a genius!

That is what I needed right now, I might still to the iFrame thing though - just to keep the menu up there.
