Making changes to Search and Browse features

Hello,          

             I am looking for help on being able to provide an option for doing a search or browse of profiles based on States.  In the menu on the right of the search page there is an option to select country and then below that a blank field.  My site is US based and I'd like to be able to allow members to browse and search for other members in their state or just be able to show a breakdown of how many members are in different states.  I haven't been able to find a tutorial or documentation that covers how to control the details of searching for members.  I've actually looked through pages with 100 different tutorials and all the documentation pages but did not find anything that says how you can change the search.  We have the ability to specify all these criteria in the profile so there must be a way to search for say a man who is looking for a woman, from age x to y, and in the state of NC, who doesn't smoke, etc.

Have you tried the Builder->Profile Fields->Search Profiles  section in the admin panel?

Other than that, the search fields are setup in the code in nested arrays.  Pretty complicated to customize if you aren't familiar with it.
