Payment settings

Hi. I have 600 members from my old site that I want to create FREE accounts for on the new site. Is there a way to input them without requiring any credit card info? If I have the site set to free mode and then change it, will it then try to charge the customers that signed up free? In addition, is there a way to add free accounts later while the site is not in free mode and not require credit card info? Thanks in advance for the help.

I had dolphingeeks install my member database so I can't help you with the specifics but, I can say I think it's an easy install for the experianced. 

To upgrade a member once they are installed go to admin, click on users then members, click on the members ID # and upgrade them there. I think once they are installed they go in as standard members without having to enter credit card info because I didn't have to do all that and I had 65k members.
