Removing Promo Banner and HTML Block

Forgive me if this is a stupid question, but here goes:

Under Basic Settings, there are only two options for the Promo banner - image reloader or html block.  I don't want either one.  Can anyone tell me how to get rid of both so that the modules just come up to the navigation bar?

just check the html block and nothing will come up

Actually, the empty HTML block shows up and I want it gone.  Real estate is expensive...LOL

mine has a skinny block at the top, so it doesnt take up too much room, but i do understand, but someone was talking about this recently, you may have to just put in promo block in the search part of the forums

Open file templates/base/page_1.html

and remove this line with code __promo_code__
