Removing Search Boxes

Hi everyone - I would like to remove the search boxes "search by ID" , "search by Nickname", etc., and only have the simple search items.  I've been trying to edit the search.php page, but when I think I've gotten all the references out, I still end up with" _search by ID" printing on the HTML page (no design box or fields, just the words, _search by ID).

Any advice on how to do this effectively?

The easy way is remove the keys from the template file for the search page.
