Upgrade question?

I have had two unsuccessful attempts at upgrading from .0005 to 6.1 using the published method.

Here is my question:

Firstly I would like to install the new Dolphin to a new directory, can I :

1) do a fresh install of Dolphin in the new directory using a new database and then :

2) only run the sql database conversion on my existing databse(6.0.0005) using ssh and then exporting the existing database to the new install database(6.1) via a sql dump file and then transferring media files(video,profile images etc) ?

is this possible?

ok, initial install and imported databse work, only thing I havent pulled across are all the media files(pics , video , bakcgrounds etc) but initially it appears to work - havent tested it fully yet , will do shortly, will update here
