Yes you can. In Admin/page builder you can remove menu/block items you don't want.

There are none so blind as those that will not see.

Yes, I use it for a community based site.

To make it less like a dating site, there are settings to disable things like matchmaking, and cupid reports, you will also need to remove some of the search functions and profile fileds - all this is easily done via the admin panel.

You might also want to rename some aspects of the site - for example - I've renamed 'Hot or Not' to 'Rate my Ride' as my community is for car enthusiasts and this was more relevant.

Generally the descriptions are generic enough that you should be okay with the standard ones.

This is exactly what I'm  trying to do with my site.  I don't want any "dating" feel to it.

My site is for connecting local photographers with makeup artists, models, stylists & studio facilities.

I would like to work out how to adapt the profile matching system in Dolphin to cater for searches relevant to this field.

Anyone got a good tutorial on adapting the search functionality oat the leastr renaming some of the default labels>  E.g. Man/Woman to Male or Female.  Or perhaps changing that altogether to have multiple options, instead searching for Photographer, Model, Makeup Artist etc.

There's not really any good tutorials out there - Jtadeo (boonexnerd.net) is soon to release a Dolphin book, that will no doubt cover how to do this kind of stuff.

Probably the best thing to do is set up a test site and then have a bit of a play around. The forums can be a bit slow here, but generally you should be able to find an answer to most questions, and if not, hopefully someone will help you out.

Changing the language elements is pretty straight forward - Just search for the text in the language section of the admin panel and then edit it to suit

Similar applies to the search - go to builders > profile fields > search profiles to change what is displayed on search page. Obviously you need to add in the extra profile fields to suit your site.

There's quite a few members that have extensively played around with profile fields and the way that they work to suit non-dating sites. There's some good info in the forums - the issue is just finding it.

Thanks DM, and apologies for a few typos in my post ;) I was in a bit of a rush :)

My main issue at the moment is the permissions/membership levels problem I posted in the other forum.  I can't find an answer to resolve it other than "buy a module" - which I would, if I was 100% convinced I could do everything I wanted, so won't be until I've finished testing. There seems to be something seriously amiss for me.

Hopefully someone will be able to help eventually.
