downgrading to dolphin 7.01

hai there

I also think that the upgrade to 7.02 was not so good and that a lot of things that did work in the first place, don't work anymore. so now I want to downgrade to 7.01 again without loosing everything I changed. is it possible or do I need to start all over again???

If you explain me, please explain from start till end,, or I don't understand

thanks

You would have to go to the backup that you made before upgrading to the latest version in order to downgrade. I would stay with 7.0.2 and try to work your bugs out. You are going to have to upgrade eventually.

thanks for your reply, but I don't have that backup. Upgrading didn't work very well, so I deleted everything and started all over with 7.02 only the files from templates.base.css I did save.

I have no idea how to work the bugs out. a lot of things just don't work. I can't even change my own profile, the "save" button doesn't work there.

Did you do a database backup by any chance?  How many members do you have?  Was yous site heavily modded?

Quote · 30 Jun 2010

hai Caltrade

thanks for your reply. My members aren't on this site yet. It is a new site, cause NING stops their free service. So I was building up this new site and I was almost done, when I did something wrong (dont know what) and decided to start over in stead of spent a lot of time in fixing the problem. Than I saw the upgrade and did what they told me to do, but it failed, so I decided to delete everything and backup my template changes only. So I did and started over with dolphin 7.02 and setup my dutch translation module I bought here, but It doesn't work proparly anymore and so a lot of things....

so thats why I want to try to go back. but maybe I have done something else wrong I think of now. The ffmpeg.exe I probably took the wrong one. does this matter? And how can I switch it for the linux one? I used by accident an other one, but it worked so I didn't think of this anymore

If you have no members yet, I would just wipe everything and do a fresh install of 7.0.2 - chalk it up to experience.  Right after you do the install, do a fully database structure and content backup from the control panel, and get in the habit of doing that frequently.  When things screw up, it is not that hard to recover if you have that.  Good luck.

Quote · 30 Jun 2010

oh damn you really think it's best to start over again??? isn't there another way?

why would my translation work when I start over. it didnt work from the start with the new version

Quote · 30 Jun 2010

I would agree with Caltrade on this one. If that much is going wrong, its not certain that downgrading will fix it. It could cause things to become worse.

From the time you upload the 7.0.2 zip, extract it, and go through the install, it shouldnt take you no more than about 30 minutes. Install the included modules you want (that come with it) and then do a complete site/database backup.

From there start installing your custom modules (templates, paid mods, etc.) After you are done with that.. Test everything multiple times.

Once you have tested and verified everything is working, do another complete site/database backup.

You should be back up in and running in less time than it would take to try and downgrade and fix any issue you come across with that (if any).

Nothing to see here
Quote · 30 Jun 2010

Yea.. since you have no one on there, just do a complete fresh install. That will help you get more familiar with the system anyway.

and dont forget.. backing up is easy and will save you time in the long run. Backup regularly.

hmmm I am sorry but I think you guys forget now that I allready did install everything up new, and then the real problems began..... with this new version . so why should it work now if I started over again????

so at first I did something wrong in the old version and the upgrade didn't work so I started all over, and after I started all over there were all this bugs wich were not here to begin with. I saw several people on this forum complaining about all this bugs in 7.02 and someone asking for a version 7.01 to go back to it. so I thought maybe its better to go back to the old version, without all this new bugs.

with this new version my translation doesn't work anymore proparly and it did in the old one (even after I screwed up). The chatrules for instant are gone... I see buttons with this kind of text "BX_blog_Featured"

my save button at my profile doesn't work ( so I am still a man there grinn) and so a few other things wich I cant remember right now.

I see, we thought you had 7.0.1 installed, upgraded to 7.0.2 and then you wanted to downgrade. What I think you want to do is do a fresh install of 7.0.1 and you are asking for a link to 7.0.1. Maybe thats it?

I dont have a link for 7.0.1 but someone here might. But you may want to consider that eventually, you will probably need to upgrade to 7.0.2 at some point.

I still think you should do a fresh install of 7.0.2 even if your translate program didn't work.  You will have to do the upgrade eventually anyway.  After you have a fresh 7.0.2 install, do a database backup, then try to make your translate program work.  If it screws up, go back to your backup copy - did you contact the person you made the translation yet?  I know that starting over is no fun - especially if you have defined a bunch of profile fields, but it might be your best way forward.

a drink ... thats a good idea... pfff I don't like this anymore. I don't know what to do. I could start over again, hoping things will go well this time. but if this problems just came cause of a bad transfer of files, than next time this could be the same again. tried to re-install my translation, but couldn't get it removed (found one thing more that doesn't work haahahahaa jippie!) lets take that drink and get drunk Tongue out

thanks

When you transfer the files, make sure you do do in binary mode.

Quote · 1 Jul 2010

binary mode??? whats that??? I really dont have any experiene with this kind of stuff.

I like to use FileZilla for FTP. Its free and works well. You can get it here http://filezilla-project.org/

Quote · 2 Jul 2010

ftw1988 If you are using Filezilla, look at the "transfer"/"transfer type" menu dropdown - make sure "binary" is selected.

Quote · 3 Jul 2010

Yes I use filezilla and it was on "automatic" Not on "binair" so this could be the cause of my problems??? then it is worthwile to start over again....

I am gonna trie this monday. thanks everyone

Quote · 3 Jul 2010

I use Filezilla, I use to have it set to 'automatic' and I had problems. I now have it set to 'Binary' No problems!

There are none so blind as those that will not see.
Quote · 3 Jul 2010

As I recall, I also had problems with the automatic settings.

I also recommend you use SFTP over FTP.

sftp what is that? how I do that??

Quote · 4 Jul 2010

started over today, exact same problems... cannot change things in my profile and such....

Quote · 4 Jul 2010

fwp1998 - could you be more specific - what happens - does the form just hang?  Clearing out both cache folders is usually the first step on debugging something like this.  I would also clear your browser cache and test again.   So you are saying you have a fresh install of 7.0.2 and you can not update your profile.  Who is your host?  You might also uninstall that "profiler" mod - I don't trust it.

Quote · 5 Jul 2010

hai Caltrade,

hmm actually nothing happens when I click the update button...  the button itself doesn't seem to work. It is like clicking somewhere beside the button, same thing happens :)

I know how to clear one cache but not both....I didn't install the profiler mod. So I installed it, same problem, and now uninstalled it again..

Quote · 5 Jul 2010

mmm - this sounds familiar - I think this happened to me but I can't remember how I fixed it - I think it was the profiler mod.  I would write Boonex support.  Include your passwords.

Quote · 5 Jul 2010

it works. I dont know what happened.... but I can change my profile now.... :) yes one less bug to worry about ......!!!Laughing so maybe you were right about the profile mod thing, but maybe my browser was slow at renewing the info, I have seen this before...

Always a good idea to clear the browser cache too.

If you use Firefox, install the web developer plugin - this has a handy 'clear cache' function.

how do I clear my browsercache? just clean the cookies and stuff you mean? I did that. And so I did now cleaned all caches and still my adjusted predefined lists are not viewable at my site. I dont understand, why does it keep remember the old info? I really have switched off all 3 caches in my admin and cleaned all caches at the homepage of admin, and cleaned the cookies and internetfiles.

Quote · 6 Jul 2010

There is a button on your control panel to clear your cache, but it is better to use FTP to delete everything but the .htaccess files in your /cache and /cache-public folders.  What predefined values table did you change?  If it is the countries table, that is done in another place.

Quote · 7 Jul 2010

actually I did change almost every list. country, sex etc.etc. and I have made a few new lists.

I did clear cache in FTP now, just like you told me, but nothing changed Undecided what is this other thing you talk about? maybe that will help?
