server backup

Hello All,

Was wondering if someone could instruct me on the proper way to backup my dedicated server in case a mishap occurs and I lose everything installed on the server. I am new to this and just spent the better part of 2 days installing software on the box (e.g. nginx, red5, php, mailbox, ftp, media codecs, phpmyadmin, etc.). I want to have the ability to restore the server in case something happens and not lose all my work. The OS is ubuntu 12.10 and the server is leased from OVH who offers FTP backup (100gb) on their system, however, will not tell you how to use it, as they only support their equipment and not software, and their tutorials are horrendous. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Can anyone provide me a way to do a full backup of an ubuntu 12.10 server? Can you provide me with a script and program to do so please?

first off,

do you have a backup HDD or server to backup to?

if so what configuration do you have to perform backups, (RAID etc)

I have access to a 100gb FTP backup server provided by the host company.

Complete?  What you want to do is to image the drive.
