IE Trick for 6.1.1

I'm running IE 6. I refuse to change to IE 7 at least for another 6-12 months, maybe by then it will be stable. I don't know the % of world wide users on 6 versus 7 but put them together and that is around 85% of the market. So while FireFox is a great browser most of my and your users are on something IE.

6.1.1 was optimized for IE 7 so what I got on my homepage with 6.1.1 in IE 6 was column 2 going below column 1. I fixd it so now in IE 6, IE 7 and Firefox I have 2 columns. I just chaged the width of the first block in column 2. I don't know if it will work for you but here it is.

1.) Edit your 6.1.1 database with somethign like phpmyadmin

2.) Select the table "pagecompose"

3.) Look at the fields labeled "column" and "order"

4.) Find the record / row where "colum"= 2 and "order" = 0 that should be the first block in column 2 on your home page. If you know the name of the block you can find it that way too.

5.) In that record / row go to the field "ColWidth" and make it 2 smaller. Mine was 50 and I changed it to 48.

6.) Save it, close nd you're done.

In 6.1.1 Admin Page builder I couldn't find a way with the slider to make the columns different sizes that didn't add up to 100% so I started trring other things. While I haven't tried it with the other pages yet my guess is that it will work on any page with 2 columns that are not showing up right. Of course you will have to find those pages entries in the database and do the same thing.

As I said it worked for me...good luck!!!

PS I still have to use FireFox to get almost anything done in 6.1.1 admin or even when I do anything on Unity.

In IE6 enough to have 99% in total to prevent breaking design (like 50 + 49)
Trey
Thank you

I will go back and make it 49 before I get into trouble

Hi Andrey... I went back and changed it to 49 and it forced col 2 below col 1. My guess is that each blocks content may make the reduction number a moving target.

Sounds like a novel idea and good advice. Certainly worth exploring. What page width pixels are you talking about by the way? the default 960px?

I hate ie7 as well and wont go there either. I do have to use firefox to update admin panel as ie6 many things do not work in dolphin. Maybe they do in ie7.

But with my ie6 and a reduced page size of 774px like the previous version I do not have the problems you mention. There are some display issues and others that I cleaned up with a ton of css edits. see more A few I am still working on.

Biggest problem I have that I've posted a ton of times is a profile page if a member has more than 8 photo's, video, or audio you will see the next link in the profile page and if you click it, displays not available or messes up the page.

Boonex.us used to do the same, but after I posted it here a few times and at expertzzz.com all of a sudden it don't do it anymore, however no update file or patch has been provided. Which is a bummer as this has to be a fairly common issue. I can't believe that I am the only one.

Either way what do I do, sit and wait and work on it one of these days in my spare time.

Well I screwed up... I just discovered that wheneer you go to admin pagebuilders it resets the data base to = 100% so it doesn't work. Don't do this
