Dolphin 7.0.7 Released! Better Mobile Apps, Access Control and More.

Andrew Boon posted 1st of August 2011 in Dolphin.pro News. 52 comments.

Dolphin 7.0.7 is ready for download with over 100 improvements, fixes and new features. Along with being a generally improved package it brings some substantial additions: support for 3rd-party mobile apps and Page Access Control.

Two More Weeks of Mobile Special

Dolphin 7.0.7 makes our Mobile Apps a lot more valuable and many current Dolphin license holders may want to consider getting a license for Mobile Apps rebranding. This license may only be purchased with Prime, but we decided to extend our Special for two more weeks and let anyone buy a Mobile License separately. We highly recommend taking advantage of the offer if you already have a Permanent license and don't need Prime, but still want the Mobile Apps license.

What's New in Dolphin 7.0.7

A geeky way to get a load of new features and fixes is to browse processed tickets. Otherwise, read on...

Mobile Apps Update and Mobile Builder

The new breed of BoonEx Mobile Apps now support integration of 3rd party Modules in the most elegant manner. Executed properly this implementation allows 3rd party modules look and feel like part of native application experience. In effect, users won't be able to tell the difference between native parts of the app and HTML-based UIs of 3rd-party modules. Just look at how we've integrated a sample "News" module:

This is not all! The real magic begins when you open up the new "Mobile Pages Builder" in your Dolphin site Admin Panel and start moving blocks for your apps. Add/remove/sort them and you'll see your changes seamlessly cause iPhone and Android apps on the phones of your site members change accordingly, without need to update, reinstall or even re-login! It just happens!

Page Access Control

This system has been around for some time as a commercial modules by AntonLV. We've purchased, integrated, updated and packed it in for you for free. Why? Put simply, because it brings control over your site to a whole new level.

Now you can control visibility of site components for all your custom membership levels. Thus you can mix and match your site settings and create all sorts of membership benefits combinations.

ZIP Code Search

Old support of ZIP codes used to be clunky and problematic, to say the least. One would have to go through all sorts of trouble finding ZIP databases, uploading it, debugging and rinse/repeat every time they need an update (which is often). Not anymore. Again, we've taken a commercial mod by kolimarfey, patted him on the back and added it to the bundle. New ZIP Code Search has an auto-updating support of ZIP-code services and basically keeps troubles at bay.

SMTP Mailer

Windows and sometimes other servers often have lots of issues with email processing... servers setup, marking as spam, etc. This nifty mod gives an opportunity to use any external SMTP server for your site needs. Again, hat tip goes to kolimarfey.

Server Audit Script

Ofttimes your hosting server is the root of all troubles, while it may well be a source of joy. Our Server Audit service is the way to get help with it, but it's only available with Enterprise licenses or for some $199. So, we've added a testing tool that runs a basic automated audit procedures and helps with DIY optimisation, free of charge.

Ready? Set! ...

Since this is a final, production version, you're good to go with updating your live sites. Upgrade script for those already in the club is ready and demo is being re-installed as we speak. All the general site download links are now updated and can be used. Good luck and stay tuned!

Dolphin 7.0.8 has been submitted as a roadmap. It'll probably only consist of bug fixes.

Your mobile - website integration.

Your zip code upgrade.

WOW!
what about profile acces ?
Diddy
you need to install it via yourdolphinlocation.com/administration/modules.php
thank you very much :)
the mobile apps is avalable only on prime package ???
Diddy
No its not only on prime package!
It means that if you don't have a license that the BoonEx and Dolphin logo are on the app. If you have a license then your logo is on the apps :-)
This is life!

Wish you well :-)
thank you man :) Have a nice day :)
Diddy
Lovely :-)
well done :-)
I did upgrade 2 sites already and testing this smooth ride!

Well done :-)
It is really something if another goal is achieved!
I think we all can be happy and I'm sure its getting better by the day :-)

smooth upgrade, no issues. Only IE didn't let me drag in buiders. Changed to chrome and firefox and it went great. IE didn't install the additional new moduls. Chrome, FF OK.

Great job thanks.

Need to test it.
Diddy
I have 2 issues!
one is database query error with profile map module as stated @ http://www.boonex.com/forums/#topic/D707-world-map-is-updating-for-long-time.htm.

and the other is sending mail from mass-mailer after smtp mailer installation:

The SMTP mailer does send the test email nicely. But at the massmailer there is the website title in the subject at the beginning saying Messege from "title".

When trying to install from fresh:

mbstring extension not installed. Warning! Dolphin cannot work without mbstring extension.

Please go to the
Dolphin Troubleshooter
and solve the problem.

I recommend people having problems to post in the forums instead of here (which is not a support topic, but an announcement).
rokoja
Okay, sorry. Thought that had something to do with the updated version.
Nathan Paton
It's alright. I wasn't referring to you specifically, though. You also have a better chance of being seen in the forums (example being your answered topic).

I love that you've included some commercial mods in this new version. I also love that you chose to go ahead with 7.0.7 instead of skipping to D8.

I'll have to play with it & have some fun. Great job getting this out so quickly & even on time Boonex! 8 )

Can Boonex report or urge developers to provide their compatibility report on their mods?

when i have 100s of mods, how will i know after upgrading to this release all the mods WILL WORK?
Nathan Paton
I think if you have hundreds of mods installed, your going to have no choice but to edit the patch.
tomakali
there are many scare factors in every upgrade... experts can survive but newbies should also be able to confidently work with ease... Boonex is really good in providing maximum support in upgradation, but the modders should join hands with boonex in every release... that will make admin's life better :)
Nathan Paton
I think you're confusing mods (that edit core files, thus making easy upgrades impossible) with actual modules.
aaaasaaaa
nice idea! a manuell upgrade, i mean for member.php, etc. will fine too!
i must today reinstall some mods to find a bug. it was really hard. i think many people have this problem. better way is a report / or manuell upgrade instruction. i know its hard work but easier than to find little bugs.
tomakali
Flash still Exist!!! :(

anything good with Adobe Edge? in future...
After upgrade. I see that the pages blocks on page builder are not visible.
aaaasaaaa
thank you for 7.0.7 !! many many problems are solved now! big thanks to the team!

ps: where can i post bugs? or pls check forum for the threads....
pps: your readme file in upgrade is not correct. i mean the hyperlinks to the threads. the most are dead-links!
Nathan Paton
You can report bugs here: http://www.boonex.com/forums/forum/Dolphin-Bug-Reports-0.htm

Premium members can also post bugs and feature suggestions directly to Trac.
if i upradge from D7.0.6 to D7.0.7 i will lose y members , photos, videos , polls,events,groups etc ?
newton27
No you will not. Make sure to read the entire page of instructions before you proceed.
Nathan Paton
And always backup before applying an upgrade.
thefakenet
I'm really looking forward to if/when some of the mods I've purchased begin to leverage the mobile app updates.
JoeWa
Great update - running well on our live large user-base Dolphin site. Congratulations on the good work!

Diddy

Thanks amiilion Diddy!!
One more thing can we go( upgrade ) from 7.0.2 to 7.07 in one shot or we have to go step by step ?
