hi,

i have a dolphin site version6.1.6 in m root directory i.e. www.mysite.com, and i wish to create a new dolphin site version7 on a subdomain i.e. www.new.mysite.com

is it possible that member can login on both sites with same login and password ?? so they dont have to register again.

i am not bothered about the music , videos, and anthing created or uploaded by members ... all i want is not to loose members.

basically i am trying to upgrade from 6.1.6 to 7 as i heard that there will be no direct upgrade from 6.1.6 to 7

or if there is any other way to upgrade from 6.1.6 to 7.

i also reqeuest to boonex to create a mod or somethin so people using D6 can upgrade D7. as people like me cannot afford to loose any members coz my site is fairly new and getting members on new site a big pain.

thnx boonex. i appreciate their work.

regards.

As far as I know, there is currently nothing available to do this. Andrew has talked about a converter for migrating some areas of your D6 installation to D7 when a stable version is released, and I assume members are included.
Maybe there might be a way to just import the user DB..

The member tables of 6.1.6 and 7.x are quite different. In any case, even if someone did code a cruncher for importing members to D7, you would be stuck with the current beta --- as there is no upgrade path provided between the betas.

Also, Boonex staff members have explicitly mentioned against providing third-party "upgrade paths" --- and quite understandably so, as public betas exist primarily for the sake of further debugging, and third-party upgrades could mix up things and introduce see more new bugs to the custom-upgraded Dolphins.

If you have a live site, you shouldn't be thinking about converting it to anything but a stable release of D7, whenever one becomes available.

thnx codesatori.
i am waiting for stable realese of d7. i love the featres in d7. its jst great. the best featres in one site. amazing. hope i will have someway to upgrade, otherwise sites using d6.x will die coz our members will be moving to other sites using d7 with better features than my site.i am sure many other have the same fear in mind.
many of us now using d6.x have spent months to learn d6 and now with d7 our sites will be pretty much vanished if there is no upgrade path.

please boonex, see more there must be some way of doing it.

If you're afraid for your site's popularity against other D7 sites, I wouldn't. Anyone who's building a live site with a Dolphin 7 beta will be stuck with the beta version they used, because there is no upgrade path provided between betas. You can't and shouldn't start using D7 on your live site now, you can only use it for testing, regardless of whether you need to upgrade it or not.

thnx for the info. appreciate that.

i think this has been written quite a few times, does anybody know the term SEARCH. the search feature on this site is rather intuitive, and should be utilized.

I was just reading this post and the comments to it. I have a site currently with 830 plus members on it (and growing daily) and there is no direct path for migrating those members to D7? My only reaction to that is: How nuts is that?? Someone please tell me there is going to be a port available. I cannot expect my members to recreate their accounts. They are picky enough now. I could only imagine how fast my member base would go down if I told them that there is no other way.

thi worked out quite well... hehe
