This is a block like any other blocks... From the Admin Panel you can choose to display it or not, for visitors or for members only, etc... You even can choose the zoom level, set the center of the map to any world area, choose the type of the map...
With a little mod (or maybe this option will be included) you even can display only profiles with photo...
