Block Tools - Version 1.0

This module is a D7 module. It installs just like the boonex default modules.

This module gives you some extra tools for dealing with page blocks.

1) Copy page blocks from one page to another. NOTE: Some blocks will not work on all pages.
Blocks are color coded. Green for blocks that most likely can be copied, and red for
blocks that most likely cannot.

2) Change the design box used for a page block.

3) Add/Edit and delete PHP blocks.

4) Add/Edit and delete HTML Blocks. NO TinyMCE Editor. Designed for pure HTML code.
If you want a tinyMCE editor then use the one built into the Page Builder.

If you remove the Block Tool via admin (if you were to update to a newer version say) would this remove your 'moved'  blocks, would you have to start again?

I have installed this and it works exceptionally well!

I have moved Blogs, World Map and Latest Articles together with Iidellowebs SpyWall, No problem. Events moved fine but does not work. In FF it does not show up, under Chrome it does but says 'Error'.

Events is very important, any idea what the problem might be?

As the mod says. Not all blocks can be copied. If it does not work, then it won't. Nothing that can be done. This fact that not all blocks can be copied is in the description on the market sale page and in the module itself in the copy blocks section. If i need to rewrite that to make it more clear than i am open for suggestions on how to get that point more understandable.

As for your other question. The copies will not be lost if the module is removed. The list of copies is kept track of in a backup folder. As long as the folder is not removed than the mod will retain that list also between updates.

It is understood. One can hope! Same goes for the Calendar I suppose :-(

Well design boxes are a dolphin thing. So this is really not the right place to ask this question because this is not a support issue with this mod.

Basically make a copy of templates/base/designbox_1.html

Name the copy designbox_4.html or some other number that does not currently exist.

Then you need to open it, rename all the CSS classes as well. Change whatever else you need to change. and then put all of the CSS for the new box in templates/base/css/general.css.

but even if you set something to publish, not reflected, you have to do something in SQL

I do not understand.

I copied the wall blocks from the profile page to the home page, and they function fine. So i am not understanding the problem.

If the wall copies over and is there. Then my mod is working and doing what it is supposed to. If the wall is not functioning as expected then that has nothing to do with my mod.

My mod copies the blocks. As for whether or not they work as intended is not an issue with the mod. More of an issue with the blocks design as to what page it was designed to work on.

I have here some problems with the "Block Tool"and the copy of blocks!

I copied a block of the index for AllMembers page and it's not there! I'm using 7.0.5

User display only with each other and when I click "Top" or "Online " disappears, the whole box!

Please be as specific as possible.

What block? From what page copied to what page?

If i am understanding your post correctly it appears you are trying to copy the members block from the home page. The members block is a red block. A block that cannot be copied.

Also be aware that not all blocks can be copied. This is mentioned in the product description. Even those marked as green are not 100% guaranteed to work when placed on another page.

I have created a block of "Profile Types Splitter Premium" which appears automatically on the index page.

This block I have now copied to "All Members"!

This block does not work as the "index page ".

If you want I can even send my data access!

Profile types splitter. Not a dolphin block. If the tools will not copy it, then it is a page specifc block that the tools cannot copy.

That block had to have come from a mod you added. So if the tools will not copy it, then the author of the mod that puts the block there should be able to assist with putting that block on other pages.

As i said, the tools will not copy all block types. They either work or they don't. There is nothing i can do to make them work.

Hi Deano, Im trying to use the mod on 7.0.5

copying 'featured photos' from photo homepage to main site homepage.

Shows as copied in block tools admin but not showing on my home page!

Is this updated for 7.0.5?

Featured photos from the photos home page is a page specific block. Colored red. Which indicates it is a block that most likley cannot be copied.

Only green blocks can be copied, and even a few of those might not.

And yes. The mod works in 7.0.5. It's been tested.

Thats because all of the blocks can be copied because all the blocks are is an entry in the database. My mod just makes a copy of that database entry. I choose to color code them rather than just leave them out because none of them, red or green are 100% certain if the copy will work or not, and some may even work on some pages but not others.

It's just one of those situations where it's better to just try it, if it don't work, then it don't and you delete it.

I am having many problems with your module, copy blocks from one page to another and put them but then I do not appear, The blocks are:

Are the block colors red or green?

It specifically states in the instructions that the red blocks most likely cannot be copied. It's mentioned on the product page where you got the module and right at the top of the module while your using it.

Here you can copy blocks from one page to another. Select the page to copy from, the page to copy to, and the block you want to copy. Then click the copy button. Blocks marked in green should work on most pages. Blocks marked in red are generally page specific and may not work on the page you copy it to.

I do know this for sure. The Avatar blocks mentioned are red. So cannot be copied.

The featured news block from the home page does copy. You need to make sure you went to the page builders after, and drag your new block into the page where you want it to appear. But i did verify the featured news block does copy and does work.

No. None of those blocks are able to be copied by the tools. They are page specific blocks written to work only on the page they are currently on.

Dolphin has over a 300 blocks when all modules are installed, of which only about 30-40 can be copied. A very small percentage.

For the most part, only blocks of type PHP, RSS or Echo(HTML) can be copied by the tools which actually only copies database entries which you can do by hand without the use of the tools.

All others would require extensive source code changes to copy them to other pages.

So could the developer of a custom module be able to place that mod specific block in the pages I want? For instance if i were to have a modified version of the Site module, could the blocks of that mod be placed in other pages of my choosing?

Most likely.

The best approach would be to have a developer who is available for hire (I am not ant the moment) create a service call version of that block.

Then the block can be put in any page by calling the service from within a PHP block.

The blocks of type PHP in dolphin that can be copied are in most cases exactly that. A PHP call to a service function.

Hi Deano, tried to change a block design on a new html block, but Im getting this error message.

Im using the edit html block function, changing design from 1 to 0 

When I 'save' this error shows.

That error indicates your running an older version of the tools on a newer version of dolphin. Make sure you have downloaded and installed the latest version.

 I was wondering if it is possible to use this tool to create a portal to another php/sql driven website so that it opens inside the dolphin site inside a dolphin page (as opposed to opening in a new tab)?  If so, do you have any recommendations for how to do this?

Your question is a standard HTML or PHP coding question and is not specific to these tools.

What your asking is most likley a iframe which can be done with html blocks. The other method is ajax loading into a div which can be done in php blocks.

The ajax method also requires the page being loaded into the block be specifically written to do that so all links will work properly. Most sites are not written to be loaded that way so the most commonly used method is a iframe.

Both methods are way beyond the scope of support for this module.

Seek help for your specific task in the regular dolphin 7 forums.

Can this tool insert php into the Fields Builder - Join Form?

No. Page blocks only.

 Is there a tool/way to edit the join form and insert a php snip to be run upon clicking "join now"?

Not that i am aware of. And i am sure it would have to be done by hand in the code that processes the join form.

You should start your own topic on what you want to do. Perhaps others have done it.

I am trying to use the php block to make a little welcome message on the site. It seems that it's not parsing \n or EOF; or any way of making a new line...Do you have a fix or suggestion?

Any word on my request for ASC sorting Dean?

I will release a new version today that has them sorted alphabetically.

However some of the items cannot be sorted as you would expect. For example the Blocks Design Box i will have to sort by the blocks page name and not by it's caption. Reason is the caption is a language key and if i sort by that they may not be in a proper order because those are translated by dolphin and could end up being anything.

So i will do what i can do.

Not related to the tools. Your question should have been started in a new topic.

There is no single quick answer to this. Doing that requires manual editing of the files and all pages will be different. So i do not have a answer for you as i have not done that with the blog page.

Opps. I edited my post aparently after you already read it.

I did actually poke around a bit in that Ads modification tutorial, but couldn't quite figure out how to apply those types of changes to the Blogs home page. Also, when I applied those Ads page changes to add a full-width box there (thinking that might allow me to then use your Block Tools module to copy that new full-width block to the Blogs page), I received the following message at the top of my Ads page: "Warning: Cannot modify header information - headers already sent by (output started at..." (I can get the rest of the error message if you wish; I already reverted my file).

My block tools have a specific purpose. The tools will not do what your need. And any block you manually add to a page via editing of the files will not be available in the page builders so it would not be available in my tools either.

The error Warning: Cannot modify header information - headers already sent is usally caused by the editor your using or by you. Extra white space after the closing ?> php tag at the bottom of the page is the most common cause of that error.

No problem. I already got a bunch of use out of the Block Tools module, adding new block styles. Very cool stuff.

You are off topic here. This forum is for support specifically for this module. The block designs themselves is a general dolphin templating/design issue.

There are only 2 designs standard with dolphin. Box 1 the default and 0 which is a box with no header or borders.

If you require other boxes then you need to design them yourself.

Instructions are available in the forums. It has been posted mutipal times.

Is it possible to create a block with this module and have that block be available on the form builders section? I tried adding a block to the Join page, but it shows up underneath the entire Join form. I am trying to create a custom HTML block of instructions for one of the sections/blocks in my join form.

You must have a non standard join page.

How the tools work is you create a block, and that block is inserted in the inactive section on the page you put it on.

Then the control goes tp the page builder where you move that block where you want it to be. So the tools are limited to what can be done in the page builder.

The standard dolphin join page has two columns. The left has a join now block. A html block can be moved above or below that block. The right column has two blocks. Why join and logon. The html block can be dragged to any position within that column as well.

So i am not understanding the problem. The block tools just inserts a block into the page in the inactive area. You need to move it to where you want it using the page builders.

And you should not be using the block tools to do this unless you need code in that block that the tinymce editor normally strips out. The page builders already have a html block, so the one in my tools is only needed if javascript or iframes that the tinymce editor strips out are required.
