Can't add categories to news module

Hi. Using 7.3.

I add News items in the News module, and add them to categories, which works.

However, the "Categories" block in the "News Home" Page Builder, when displayed on the front end, doesn't actually show the new categories created or assigned to the News item.

The only categories that block shows is the default ones that come out of the box.

Interesting bug but would be nice to have it fixed please?

There are system categories and user categories.

Only system categories are shown on module homepage.

User categories are added during posting.

System categories are created in Admin Panel > Settings > Categories Settings.

Hi Alex. Thanks for the information.

Yes you are right, I setup a system category and it displayed as expected.

So it's clear to me, are you saying "users" can post news?

When I login as a standard user account, I cannot see any option for users to post news items.

If they can't post, what's the reason for user categories?

Thanks.

Are admins also 'users'?

(For now) I'm the only admin. I consider a "user" as a non-admin on the system.

What I mean to say is that when an admin adds content from the front end and adds new categories there, these then become 'user categories'.

As admin, it's probably better to create categories in the backend and then you can add content to default categories when 'admin posts as user'.

If that makes sense.

I see. Yes that makes sense. Thanks again.

While working on my HTML Sitemap, I came across a similar situation in Events; where I had Sports Events as 'Common Categories' and Tourism as an user category.

I went in to Categories Admin and created a Tourism category, in Events.

Went back to the Events Categories page and both categories were placed in Common Categories, automatically.

Users can't post news, but it's common behaviour for categories.

So it's clear to me, are you saying "users" can post news?
