Google Verify Site Meta Tags

Oh God. I am going nuts with this one. I really need help where to place this meta tag to make Google verify I am the owner of my site.

I have read a few posts here but does anyone able to give me (a dumby) step by step directions on how to do this.

I believe google has another option other than the metatag.

They should also allow you to upload a file that is named something like this. google61c5d460167d79b3.html

But if the meta tag is your only choice. Add it to the template.

templates\base\_header.html

How do I access this through, "Language" or FTP?

I have never accessed my FTP.. scared too :(

I do see that Google allows other forms but I need step by step directions because I have tried a few ways but it was not successful.
