Icon replace text for top menu

Hello all,

I am having a tough time trying to get icons to replace several texts for the top menu. I am using 7.3.4 with Dolphin default Evo template. I followed this out-dated tutorial with no results:  https://www.boonex.com/trac/dolphin/wiki/TutorialHowToWorkWithIconsAndImages

Any help is greatly appreciated or any updated tutorial published for 7.3.x

Regards,

Henry

What exactly are you trying to replace?

I think these Wiki posts were done in the days before UNA when there was still hope for Dolphin. They were brilliant and there were a lot. Today there's absolutely nothing. A sad case of extremely poor marketing I'm afraid.

It makes me feel like we're flogging a dead horse, despite the very high price tag.

Hello John,

I totally agreed with your thoughts. I have invested so much in Dolphin only for them to start a new platform una.io and stepping slowly away from full commitment to Dolphin.Pro. The problem is una.io is very similar to Dolphin.Pro with many addons vendors heading to una.io to create similar addons listed here. Any common sense person would know that commitment can not be 100% when you have two platforms. Your comments kind of got me thinking about other options.

For what it is worth, I am trying to change the top menu's text such as home | forum | photo | etc in to icon. Under Builder > Navigation Menu > Any blue items has option for Picture and Icon. I placed my icons under templates/base/images/icons/icon_name.png. I am using EVO template with Dolphin 7.3.4. I am trying to achieve the old school dolphin with icons for the first 4 tabs (see photo) for EVO template.

I could get icons to appear in the Quick menu because icons are already a feature. No luck with the main menu however. Sorry, but I don't have time to play with this one.

There are many ways in which this can be done, one quick and easy but really not correct way to accomplish this can be the following.. In your  Builders > Navigation Menu >  Click on the link you want displayed as icon and change the "Language Key" value to whatever new language key that you like and then go > Language Settings > (administration/lang_file.php) and here you click "add key" and then add your new language key string in field "Key Name" and in the field "String Text For English Language" add your HTML tag  <img src="templates/base/images/icons/icon_name.png" alt="my old school icon"> and click save. Clear your caches, both dolphin and browser... then hit your F5 or ctrl+R and then you will see your not font but awesome icon =)

@Adultdate,

Thank you for the tip. It is working. It is sad that this platform provides an options for Picture and Icon section in the Navigation Menu but has no instruction or it is not function correctly. Software suppose to get mature over time with every new version released except Dolphin.Pro platform. **sigh**

@Johnk42 Thank you for chiming in on this topic.

Glad you got it working and thanks @Adultdate. I tried entering a URL as a language key once and it didn't work. I never thought of a src, but then again, I would never have thought of your solution in 100 years. Please keep contributing, we need more people like you.
