Ignoring other members in chat

Okay, today I had a serious issue with some spammers in my chat. It was absolutely crazy, and as soon as I banned them they would sign up again and do it all again.  Fortunately I have AntonLV' Access Management System, and was able to block their IPs.  End of problem.

Some of my members, who were as frustrated as I was, began asking if there was any way members could "ignore" other members in the chat.

Now I know that 7.0.2 added a few of Rayz's awesome chat mods.  One of these gave us the ability to block other members from whispering to us, sending us private messages, viewing our profile, and viewing our webcam.  Thank you Rayz!

However, I don't know if it would be at all possible (or even desirable) to have members in our chat be simply able to ignore other members...and therefore not see anything that member types in the chat.

This would at least help if more of these spammers came into my chat when there was not a moderator present.

Or, perhaps we could add something that prevent "flooding" of the chat rooms.  I know most top chat sites have this built in flood control.

Any ideas??????

I guess I have a decision to make.  Do I keep the current chat or do I purchase something even better and integrate it with the site?

Having some sort of flood control, which would prevent members from hitting enter 5 thousand times, would be desirable.

The current chat is very good, but it would need some additional mods, etc.

There's an option to block users in the Chat module, but it's limited to private messaging and whispering, and doesn't seem to include messages in the channel.

Yeah, the problem is when you get some nut job flooding the chat so nobody else can chat.  If there is no moderator or admin present, this could go on indefinitely until all your member leave.

I realize there is no guaranteed and absolute remedy for this type of situation....

Hey there.  Regarding the safety features or lack there of in 7.0.2 it does not make it practical to use a web cam chat that you, the member, have little or no control over.  I had tried the web cam chat but found it seriously lacking in security for the female membership and that the moderators have little control.  I did switch to a 3rd party web cam chat solution which has all the safety features that I require and which can be easily integrated into dolphin 123flashchat.  I would love to not have to pay for an outside web cam chat program which comes with the dolphin community but until such times as dolphin takes into consideration of it's members while using all aspects of the site, I and many other dolphin users will have to pay fopr secure outside web cam programs.  Yes they spam your site but the program I use has a feature to filter and I add website names which works like a charm.  Good luck and I hope your community stays safe.  Wish I could darn well stay safe.  Preparing food for daughters wedding I severed two tendons in my baby finger which means I've typed all this using one hand. lol  Have a lovely day. xxx  If you want to check my site ou come on over.  http://www.iambewytched.com  My name is BeWytched there too.

Yeah, I'm actually a bit surprised that nobody else is interested in this thread.  I've taken a look at a lot of the top chat scripts, and they all seem to have some sort of "flood control".  This is something we need in ray chat.

Imagine you have a handful of members chatting on your site.  They are enjoying the experience, and are planning on coming back and even inviting friends.

Now in comes "SpammerAlert" (that's actually the first username that this individual used when he tried to sabotage my chat rooms by flooding the heck out of them).  SpammerAlert has decided to flood the chat rooms and drive all your members away.

If there had been a moderator or admin present, SpammerAlert would have been dealt with quickly and easily.  However, at this time there is nobody to stop SpammerAlert from driving all your members from your chat.

What can be done?

You should get on Rayz case to add this.  Flood control is a pretty basic feature.  I'd bet that the spammer is probably someone from this site.
