Missing Icons on Members Pages

I thought everything was going well until I logged on as a member. Where ever an Icon is meant to appear, there's just a blank square containing an initial:

The only icon that appears is the member's own Icon. The problem is everywhere, (members, timeline etc) but if I look at a member's page by clicking their profile, all is okay.

I have Photodeluxe running and I'm reluctant to uninstall it to see if that's the problem.

Has anyone else experienced this issue and fixed it? I'm wondering if I set something incorrectly, but I can't think of what it may be.

I've done a little more research, but I'm no closer to resolving the issue.

Here's a screen dump of the page source for an icon on my home page. The part in the red box generates the image.

Here's a screen dump from one of my members home page. Notice that the image part is missing and replaced with code to generate the box with an initial.

I have no idea why this section would be different for admin and a member. Both are Standard Members and as far as I can tell, the same privileges apply.

Can someone help please.

Are you using the avatar module?  What are the settings in the Profile section?  Have you confirmed the member has an avatar or photo?

Thanks Geek_Girl.

I'm not using the avatar module and don't wish to. My test site works fine without it.

I've set up  about 10 users for test purposes. They work fine on test site. All have profile pics.

What I see:

What my members see:

What are the settings in the Profile section? Not sure what section you mean. I wasn't aware there was a "settings" screen for profiles. I thought the choices were in Fields Builder, Page Builder etc. Am I missing something there?

The problem is not only in the profile. It's everywhere - People, Verified Members, Timeline on all pages it appears, etc.

I've removed every module and the problem persists. It happens with all templates and this code or something similar seems to have a lot to do with it.

    <bx_if:show_thumbnail_image1>
                <img src="__usr_thumb_url0__" src-2x="__usr_thumb_url0_2x__" class="thumbnail_image_file bx-def-thumbnail bx-def-shadow bx-img-retina" />
            </bx_if:show_thumbnail_image1>
            <bx_if:show_thumbnail_letter1>
             <p class="thumbnail_image_letter bx-def-border bx-def-thumbnail bx-def-shadow">__letter__</p>

I can't figure out what triggers that code. I found it in Templates/base

I see.  It is a permissions problem with your privacy groups.  Check which privacy groups you have active.

I may not have been clear enough.  When you log on as admin, you can see all the profile images because you have the permission to see them.  When you log on as a member, you can only see your profile image because you have permission to see your own, but not any of the other members..

Hi Geek_Girl,

I currently have one test privacy group with no names in it. There are the usual ones and as it's a members only site, all my members are listed in or using the Members Privacy group.

I'm still experimenting with the following:

I partly resolved the problem. It seems that the PhotoDeluxe Module creates, or uses the common folder XXXX's Photos for avatars or profile photos. It also removes the button "Use as Avatar", thus every photo you upload to that folder overrides the previous profile photo.

To get around that problem, I created a special folder for Profile Photos" on my member's pages and placed their pics there. Photo deluxe didn't recognise them in that spot.

To overcome the problem, I renamed XXXX Photos to XXXX Profile Photos and created another file for general photos. When I placed the member's avatar in the newly named file, it appeared as a thumbnail in all the right places.

This is only one of several issues I have with Photodeluxe. As with Dolphin, a lack of documentation doesn't help.

I'm also having trouble with Timeline and Outline. Timeline works except for uploaded photos and outline doesn't work at all. I think PhotoDeluxe is responsible for those problems also.

I'm about to create a completely new site and put PhotoDeluxe through its paces.

You are missing the true reason for the issue you are having.  I explained how it works.  However, Damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead!

I would suggest to check what is the module is used for avatars:

Admin Panel > Settings > Advanced Settings > Profiles > Member Thumb & Member Thumb Icon

Geek_Girl and AlexT,As far as I can see, all my permissions were correct.

Although Photodeluxe was already off, I eventually deleted all the photos from my albums and members albums and started from scratch, experimenting as I went.

Using the Dolphin Photo module only:

When I loaded a photo into the default album "Nickname's Photos" it immediately became the profile photo and avatar. As soon as I added another, the new photo became the profile photo and avatar.  Obviously Nickname's Photos should be called Nickname's Profile Photos to avoid confusion. Clicking the Set as Avatar button did switch photos, but any new photos added to the album would override it.  I guess that's logical and all new photos should be prospective avatars.

.

Please read the attachment before commenting.

I've now created three albums and I'll ask my members to do the same. Profile Photos (I've renamed it in Admin/Photos Module), General Photos, Friends Photos (both set Members Only) . It would be great if Dolphin could create these three albums from the outset. It would save so much confusion.

By selecting a profile photo in the default (Profile) Photos album, it now appears in all the right places.

When I place additional photos in the other albums, they're now appearing in the correct places also.

Please note: Although I'd removed PhotoDeluxe, the original problem persisted until I eventually deleted all the photos and replaced them.

I'm now about to work on photo deluxe to see if it compounded the problem.

The attachment isn't so much to do with this problem, but more about why the incorrectly named "Nicknames Photos" Album confused me and possibly many others.

Thank you @demmy for the explanation.

Actually the problem has place when you rename "Default Profile Album Name". When you rename it and Photos module is used for avatars, then all profile thumbs will disappear. So it's better to rename this album when site is empty or just installed.
