 Is there a way of having one 100% wide block, then two 50% blocks under it (or whatever variation one requires)? The column layout seems very limiting. I could use PHP or HTML blocks to insert content into, but it'd be so much easier if I could just use the existing blocks... something like this:

yes, i think i actually seen this posted on http://boonexnerd.com you will need to join the site there and look around. it is a customized version of a layout, so there is some work involved. the other option would be to inquire of one of the designers on here, UE30 or Gorpus should be able to provide an answer such as this.
