Video Chat Delays

My test users are experiencing delays when it comes to video chat. There is a significant delay in the audio. Any suggestions on where I can modify the setting or what would be causing this?

Some of my members are complaining about the same issue (lags with audio and video).

I'm curious, is your RMS on your own server?  If so, what type of server do you have?

Or, are you paying for access to an outside RMS or RMS with your hosting company?

 my RMS is provided by my hosting company. I have been told that there are currently 30 sites using their RMS.

Boonex's implementation of flash chat doesn't support P2P so all chat connections must go through the RMS. If the RMS or its connection is overloaded, you will see delays.

The real surprise is that just recording a video has audio sync issues! Even on a local network test server with one user.

When I last looked into this I thought it was an out dated version of Red5 (that's all RMS really is) but even after updating to newer versions of Red5 the issues are still there. I now think it is an issue with the flash apps.

FlashComs is looking better and better, despite the price, but I would still be stuck with recording videos and video comments issues. :(

That is quite surprising given the prominence of chat in Dolphin. I would love to see a video chat site without delays so i can see for myself how it is suppose to work.

Hey,

Have you tried testing on Boonex.us to see if it's at least better than your current situation.  This might at least give you an idea if it's primarily the software or if it's primarily an issue with your RMS hosting.

I think I'm going to try this as well.

If you do try it, and you beat me to it, can you post your conclusions in this thread.  That would be awesome.

Also, I would love it if some members who believe there video and audio are working 100% to post there sites here so we can also test.
