Is it possible to sell some of my modules that I bought along the way to others? |
boy this is gonna start a fight watch and see... but my take on it is and im going with,,,, modules are bought FOR A SITE, so if you sell that site you can sell with it the modules you bought FOR THAT SITE, but I have been told I am wrong on this by some and that I am right by others. .. so in chat way "can I sell my modules" .. maybe
now if you are asking that can you sell the modules you bought but decided you no longer want, or didnt need after all? .. NO think of modules as a service, you bought the right to use that service on your site, and not test/use then decide its not for you and go sell it.. thats why people need to be sure about modules before buying them, specifically the high dollar ones. It's simple: Check the license on the market. Most state that the product cannot be redistributed (resold) without permission of the vendor. If you're unsure, ask the vendor. BoonEx Certified Host: Zarconia.net - Fully Supported Shared and Dedicated for Dolphin |
Thanx for the info. maybe an idea for a new section on the market (2nd hand shop) where you can upload the product(module) to and if it's sold then gets removed and no longer for sale. That way you can only sell it once! would that be possible at all you think?? As now I have a list of modules that I will never use anymore due to version issues or that I no longer see the need for... |

As now I have a list of modules that I will never use anymore due to version issues or that I no longer see the need for... No, because there's no way to make sure that's the only copy. Generally, most vendors wouldn't want their stuff resold - that kind of activity cuts them out of profits they deserve, and there's no way to make sure the seller doesn't still have a copy on them. To be clear: Generally, the license for market items forbids redistribution, especially for a price. If you want to get rid of some old modules, check with the market vendor first. For vendors that are suspended or no longer active here, I'm defaulting to the no redistribution line to avoid headaches.
I'd rather not see posts on here with modules for sale, and I'll remove them by default on the assumption that they aren't kosher. BoonEx Certified Host: Zarconia.net - Fully Supported Shared and Dedicated for Dolphin |
It is clear to me that it's a NO GO to resell when i'm done with it.

It is clear to me that it's a NO GO to resell when i'm done with it. Pretty much, but that's the status quo for almost any software purchased online. BoonEx Certified Host: Zarconia.net - Fully Supported Shared and Dedicated for Dolphin |
Regarding the issue of reselling individual modules (i.e. unused or no longer needed), reselling goes against the terms of the purchase agreement. Personally I'm fine with NOT being able to resell individual modules. BTW, I can understand why you're interested since I have several modules that I've yet to use... a couple of them I'll never use because they're now outdated. Regarding selling a site developed with a licensed Dolphin platform that includes several 3rd party modules... I prefer to think if you decide to sell that website, that as part of the sale you must transfer the rights to the Dolphin License plus the 3rd party modules. I say "transfer" because you cannot resell either the Dolphin License or the 3rd party modules. Thus the amount you sell your website for will only cover the time you put into creating the site and the value it may have on the open market. My understanding is that WordPress, Drupal and Joomla sites can be developed by one person/group then sold/transferred to another person/group... legally. If the same is not true for Dolphin then why would anyone (or group) invest in it unless they were 100% sure the site would never be transferred? http://pkforum.dolphinhelp.com |

Redistribution and selling your license are different things. You can't forbid a customer to sell his license in the license terms. Lots of things listed in the licenses would not hold in a court of law. |
I have spent over 4 thousand dollars in buying boonex prime license and 3rd party plugins and since i bought these items i have never used them to running any online business. Now i decided to sell my boonex account including all the plugins and prime license but its seems i cant from all i have been reading above it is just like boonex is built like a big Cage Trap, once you are in there is no going out. The only going out is by abandoning the items you no longer need. This is not good at all |
We don't get involved with how Vendors choose to license their products. They all have their own stories, visions and situations. So, check the LA.
With that said, I see this as a yet another sign of general paradigm shift in how software is best to be licensed. Users realise more and more that software is not real-estate. It is rarely used for more than a few years and even if is, there are circumstances that make original licensing irrelevant. So, smaller periodic payments, like subscriptions, generally make more sense - they allow users to keep their initial expense and risk low, may be maintained if using the software still makes sense and can be cancelled when it's not needed. This also works better for developers, since they have interest in continuous support and improvement, thus reducing churn and building predictable revenue stream.
We are gradually switching to this model in Boonex and I believe that Boonex Market would eventually benefit from subscription-based arrangement. Heart Head Hands |
The only way I see that third party licenses could be transferred, is if the module vendor maintained a license server, and portions of the module code were encrypted.... Yuk
I've certainly amassed a pile of third party modules that are no longer useful to me... even though they may work with 7.2. I just chalk it up as a cost of doing business.... I don't like whining over money that I made the decision to spend on what seemed like a good idea at the time. Suck it up people, and take your losses like a man. I've seen people like this in my 5 years i spent in here , going away , fed up , trying to sell there modules and so on , no success on running a proper business , this all due to the weakness of the Platform and lack of Vendors in the market and modules and something that could keep people exciting about . I said it many times , the whole bloody place needing new freshener . Anyway we will see what we will come out ! I still demand , live search, location integrated into the timeline , like in U Trident , and Attracting more vendors to the market... Peace Proud Hosted by Zarconia.net |
That live search thing can be a real sql hog. You're used to seeing it work fast on FB where they have millions of dollars of server technology at work. Some crappy $100 a month server just might not deliver those live search results very fast. Something like that would be better suited for a third party module. Boonex has a lot of things a lot higher up on the to-do list. My opinions expressed on this site, in no way represent those of Boonex or Boonex employees. |
are you asking about selling modules but still keeping your boonex account - in which case you are still also keeping the modules...
Or selling your whole account? 2 different things. |
