Hi everyone, I wanted to start a little conversation about peoples opinions on users that are posting links (often with affiliate id's attached) in the forums. Eg. Someone asks a support question? And others reply with an answer but also include a little advertisement (if you look at it that way) providing a link to another site they are affiliated with in someway or maybe they just think this site is great for some reason. Or another eg. Someone answers a question in the forums with the statement they will answer on xxx page and of course provide a link. I am not saying any of this is wrong, some may see it as being helpful, others may see it as being spam. I am interested in what our United community thinks? So get typing and post your comments. thanks, and happy dolphin creating.

Seems keep links at forum posts restricted by rules. And admins have all right to delete each post with Ads.
No need leave your sites links, you can just add your site into Communities section if you want.

well i know who this is aimed at and yes what they are doing is wrong. all they are doing it trying to get members to use their site and take them away from here, sad really but its the way they are doing it that is wrong,

of cause this person did bitch about the lack of unity here and now make a point of trying to split what unity there is here even more.

ahoy, must be talking about TOPHER. but he has the same air about him as did the globalghost. just its known, globalghost had some dolphin sites hosted on his resellar account, and i suspect he has opted to get out of the web site hosting business. his server has been shutdown, and he had dolphin users sites on there, and they have lost every bit of their work. and he was one that would direct somebody to his site.

This is crazy. I have spent more than two weeks developing a site wide censor for dolphin, free. I spend my nights on over 20 sites fixing problems, free. I'm not going anywhere dosdawg. I have no idea the mention of the other individual you speak of.

I will continue to post my link, I DESERVE IT. Nothing else said. The first time it is removed, I will cancel my account here and that will be it - you forget, THERE IS NO TASK IN PHP I can't accomplish. I don't need help. I don't need the see more back-stabbing posts like these. I don't need the little kids in the corner snickering. I don't see boonex quick to help ANYONE. I don't see anyone jumping on your sites and fixing problems without a dollar amount - I DO - HAVE and continue to everyday.

Unity? Here? Please sammie, dosdawg - whoever else is in that little circle. When you can walk in my shoes - then talk, until then, do what you do, and I'll do what I do.

Yes, I'm mad.

Topher this thread was started by me and NO, it was not directed at you.

It was directed at people trying to drag people away from this community to benefit by providing links that offer hosting and other services and such.

I am disappointed that you have taken offence to this, as I can assure you that was not my intention...

You were not on my mind as one of the people trying to seperate this community...Completely the opposite.

I have seen and even use some of the tips, tricks see more and Free mods that you have offerred on the site, so why would I set out to make you mad about this....

This was not intended as a personal dig at anyone in particular, I don't have a blacklist of people...

What I actually referred to was people intentionally trying to drag people away from this site by stating they have the answers but will only provide them on xxx.com site.

It seems i have ruffled some feathers with this post and that was not my intention, I was seeking input into people's opinions on others trying to break apart the community.

For starters topher/chris is not globalghost...not even close. Topher knows php, ajax, and other programing that very few are willing to share. Or at least willing to share for free.

Topher is my friend and I will certainly vouche for him, that he does this for free and to benefit the community. It's too bad that one would make a claim that his links in a signature are not wanted when this is offered for free.

I have posested a few of my own links in the forums. At any rate, I certainly think see more that a link to a free site with a simple join which dolphin is based on is not asking too much. Topher or myself is not asking you to purchase some ram chip, click our affiliate link directly in this forum or blog. so if this is after us, and you really do not want us to post legit help and guides there are certainly a number of other well known sites that get posted in the blogs. We wont go into details but they are there. What makes one right and one wrong is a little disappointing.

Maybe this wasnt your intent. If so you should re-word your post. But for those of us that have taken the time to create free for all's. Mrp, james, dosdawg, sammie, and yes topher and myself...maybe you should specify. Otherwise if we are supposedley not allowed to post this info...It would be nice if you passed it along to everyone else. Or let us know what we are allowed and not-allowed per the quote rules!! which is bs.

I am pissed off too because this is total bull shit I'm not going to be polite and nice about some thing I believe in.

I could post many things that I would be shit canned for that seem to be allowed so what is the border line. Who the heck knows.

I'm not that upset about affiliate links in a signature - I would rather they not be there, but it isn't a huge issue to me. I do agree however, that these posts that say "I will answer your question, but only if you join my site" could be damaging. That means that anyone who does a search later will not be able to find the answer on Unity. I think people have the right to start their own forums, but this is using Boonex and Unity as a vehicle for their marketing, and it is tacky at see more best.

This is a tough call and touchy subject. What is allowed and not allowed. What makes one site or post right and not another.

Do I post my links in the forums. I sure do and I will continue doing so. I don't make you signup at my site for an answer, but I do have other links there to other sites and adds, who don't for that matter. Is this not right either?

So when one looks at this or reads this it can be directed to a number of members.

I would agree buy this ram chip, or computer or whatever see more in the blogs we see is spam or junk. I saw some a while back about shoes that sat on this blog for 3-5 days before it was delete. Guess we needed some big investigation to see if it was spam or something.

Nobody makes anyone click on a link. You physically need to move your mouse to it and click it. Whether you do or don't that is your choice, but it's just text. Don't click it if you don't feel right or you are not sure.

Do I want to here about some new 1 man show web hosting for $3 per month that this person probably don't know jack about. They hope nobody messes it up and they make a few bucks on the site. Or they slap 200+ other accounts on there. No, I am almost certain most of these are a crock. And most likely they don't know dolphin that well either.

But I really don't care if I see some. I visit the site and an laugh about the lack of professional looking site to begin with, then I say man you are going to host it for $3 per month, do you really know anything about hosting. And it becomes apparent that most of what I see is a major joke, regarding hosting anyway.

If Topher is offering his services for free, then the posting of his link is not detracting from the community. In all actuality, it's adding to the community.

Dolphin is not an easy program to install, let alone customize into a working site that is user friendly to the members. The vast majority of us come here looking for answers to questions. I know I did. In fact, when I came here I had only learned html the week before, forget about FTP, MySQL, Ajax, PHP, CSS and all the other types see more of code I've been forced to begin to comprehend. This site has helped my site move from only an idea to something that is getting close to launching.

It's because of people like Kosmic, OKWeb, Topher and a few others that that hs happened.

I would like to see every Dolphin site, with and without ads, as I am new here and I need to see what a Dolphin site might look like and accomplish! So I´m all for dolphin site links in posts!
