Checkbox control issues - join form and search

Boonex apparently remembered their checkbox field only as an afterthought it D7.  It worked fairly well in D6 but they have broken it.   We cannot select multiple rows as for the checkboxed in the join form as we could in D6 - so they end up in one long row.   This makes the control almost useless as it is designed for situations where there are a large number of items to present to the member as a muliple select.  Because if this, I haven't designed any searches with checkboxes, but I understand there are problems with the search side also.  Someone should look into the integrated operation of this function.

@AlexT or AntonLV

can you guys please have a go at this one, this truly makes a site look hideous. also would be nice if these options could be selected from a dropdown based on a group of options rather than a blue million check boxes for additional options.

It was done in RC or Beta versions. So if you have more than 3 checkboxes/radiobuttons - then each checkbox/radiobutton will be positioned on new line !

Not for me, unless I am doing something wrong, they all go on one line, making this important control essentially useless on D7.  This is my second most important issue, after the multiple select issue on fields made from predefined lists, which works better now, but still has major bugs.  Here is a snap of part of my join form with a check box control:

as you can see from caltrades post. this can substantially lengthen the form. is there no way to allow this to become a dropdown menu? or allow them to be spaced across the page justified or some other format besides one per line?

Of course it can be a drop down menu, that is not the point.   I have to use drop down menus now because the check box function doesn't work.   It was great in D6 - the let you pick the number of items for each row, and the corresponding search function also worked.   This has become a useless function on D7.

I figured out how to fix this so it is not so bad looking.  You can now create columns to display the info just download my mod (yes it's free):

http://www.boonex.com/unity/extensions/entry/Columns_for_your_Multiple_Select_Options

So now you can display info like this:

Maurice, good job.  How does the corresponding search work for this?  Does it affect it?  I seem to remember you posting something about searching when you have a checkbox control, but since it has never worked on the join form, I never got that far.   Please share your code with Boonex so they can fix this in the core product.

Searches with checkbox as the input will be rowed as well.

So if you selected two of them, it would search for both instances and return the correct results?  That's kind of interesting - can't do that with a dropdown.

cal, it would be a multi-selector from a dropdown sir hold CTRL and click, then yes it would be the same functionality. but i like this approach as well. wasnt negating what you were asking for, i was just asking for an optional solution just as you were. because a site that has say 50+ options would be strung along forever on a profile when registering.

good job on this one, and i will be checking this out.
