Download free video from Big Buck Bunny (854x480, H.264) as an example. 250MB, 10 minutes long. Ok, adjusted php.ini to 256MB and Flash is off. Video uploaded and processed. It's playable on desktop. However, it doesn't seem to be playable on tablet/phone. Pop-up says "The operation could not be completed". Is this bug? |
I am assuming your are just using your mobile device to browse your website and NOT talking about the mobile apps.
If so, here are some things to check:
- Make sure that the HTML 5 Audio/Video Player is installed via the Admin Panel
- Admin Panel > Flash Apps -- Click settings for Video Player & Video Comments and make sure that the 'Use H264 Codec' is checked. NOTE: If this was not checked, you will need to re-upload the video again. This only works with 'new' content from what I can tell. My older videos still use flash player.
Make sure your browser is capable of viewing HTML 5 content. I used FireFox on an Android device. I did have to go into the FireFox Settings > Display > Plugins and choose Enabled instead of 'tap to play'.
Nothing to see here |
I get the same message on mobiles and I have HTML 5 Audio/Video Player installed and H264 checked.
Could it be error with code because some videos under 4 minutes and mobile upload plays?
Thanks,
|
Entered my test website in Dolphin app and I'm getting the same pop-up message. So, it's not just browser but app as well.
- HTML5 A/V Player installed while Flash Player is disabled.
Since I do NOT have Flash installed, I had to use Chrome which has built-in Flash. Ok, I went into Flash Apps and disabled everything. H.264 ticked but the flash player itself is disabled, the process converted to m4v and webm.
Hmm, you think my mobile browser can't play HMTL5, you're joking right? It's ok, you're learning Apple! It has built-in HTML5 player and there's no setting. I have both Safari and Chrome... BOTH are non-playable. I checked Boonex's Demo and they are playable however it's extremely short video.
I've enabled Flash Player. Uploaded and processed. And the result is the same.
Desktop, both can play. Mobile/App... not playable. I've attached Cron Daemon
|
Ok, I tried uploading 36 seconds of 720p less than 10 seconds. Short video is playable on mobile devices. But not the 10 minutes one? Anyway, why am I still getting cron daemon on 10 seconds video? Anyone having the same issue? I will NOT ignore this one. It's been a month. Come on! |
I seem to be getting reports of slow video too.
I just have one tutorial video loaded It runs for about two minutes.
I will check the recommended settings too.

Go to "Administration" and then "flash apps", "video player" and "setting"
and metter: "Use H264 Codec"
You can also disable "video player"
|
There's typo, should be 10MB, not 10 seconds! Anyway...
I am annoyed when someone tells me "Go to Administration", I know every settings there are. I haven't tweaked anything related to video at all. So, I'm calling this one bug. Anyway, I HATE (yes, strong word I know and I bloody mean it!) Flash and all things Adobe.
Doesn't matter if I tick or untick H.264 Codec, makes no difference. Moreover, Video Player is disabled... so, what's the point? The rest of Flash Apps are disabled as well.

However, it doesn't seem to be playable on tablet/phone.
I did exactly as you stated.
The ten minute video is playing on my phone as I type, at the six minute mark.
The site has a demo user account if you would like to test on your mobile/tablet.
I upload two, one converted at 1024kb and the second at 2048kb conversion rates, didn't make a difference in playback, just quality.
video can be watched via the mobile app at http://www.recoverstormtreasures.com/, user is "demo" pw is "demo1"

I added your link to Dolphin app, these videos are not playable. Even mobile browsers couldn't play them. On computer, they're playable. All my devices are Apple (MacBook Pro, iPad mini, and iPhone 5s).
Tried Firefox on computer, I saw how long it takes for it to load... this may be the issue? This needs to be fixed somehow to make it load faster. I checked Google browser on iOS... both are still loading forever (an hour now and still). Desktop only took about 10 minutes.

@Audanbal - you are using Apple devices? caredesign.net |
Read above, I already mentioned. |
I asked cause I wanted to make sure that what I read was correct. I have noticed that with Apple devices, playing videos is a crap shoot, whether in the dolphin mobile app or the Website. I have had videos play one minute on an apple device, and then 5 minutes the same video would not play. This has been mentioned before and I guess they have not gotten around to worrying about videos on Apple devices yet. caredesign.net |
I believe Dolphin's ffmpeg.exe is outdated. This is why there are issues. |
Interesting.. The complaints I get appear to be from apple users. My ipad also seems to have challenges with Safari or Chrome. Any idea on how to get this fixed? Peer L. Plaut Executive Director, Single Booklovers Connecting Bookworms Since 1970 |
I believe Dolphin's ffmpeg.exe is outdated. This is why there are issues.
I don't think thats the reason. My site used to be able to play videos on my Samsung galaxy 3 phone using Chrome on dolphin 7.1.4 site until a month ago, it stopped working for some reason. Tested on my girlfriend's phone thats same as mine but using with android browser and still can't play HTML5 videos on my production site. Did a fresh install development site done last week. I only had HTML5 player and video module installed. Same issue.
I downloaded Firefox on my phone 30 mins ago and able to play videos. That still doesn’t explain why it is unable to play on chrome which is perfectly capable of playing HTML5 videos as I have tested on other websites as well as Newton’s video comments at http://www.recoverstormtreasures.com/m/videos/view/Gladiator-ndash-Are-You-Not-Entertained (I’m wondering what dolphin version this site is?)
I go ahead and uninstall html5 player and video module and re install to rule anything out. Oh damn it! I lost the videos and didn't make a sql back up... (videos still in FTP). oh well whatever, there's a reason for development site :)
I upload a new video (to development site), and video comment and test on my phone with chrome, no go. Ok that wasn’t it.
Test video comment record from windows 8.1 on latest chrome, firefox and IE and test on my phone chrome. Nope, no work. Firefox can play all.
I’m itching with the fact that my phone chrome is unable to play video comment on my production and development site and yet it can play video comments on Newton’s site at link above and the main video at http://www.recoverstormtreasures.com/m/videos/view/big-buck-bunny-504x284-2013-12-27 .
Any ideas we should play with until we find something? Please advise.

This site http://www.recoverstormtreasures.com/ is a current pull from the SVN source, so it is about as close to 7.1.5 I can get; I keep it updated every couple days.
There are many fixes applied, if you need to you can get them yourself via trac or SVN.
I do this to keep ahead of the releases and get ready for any errors and test modules for clients and give suggestions from testing items there.
As you see the videos, video comments work, but again, I have extremely tweaked my server, and RMServer.

I pulled a m4v from server to my desktop and it's playable. I'm betting it's the HTML 5 A/V Player issue.
Also, ffmpeg in Dolphin currently runs v0.10 which is built on Feb 2, 2012. I check ffmpeg site, it is now v2.1 which is built on October 28, 2013. There are several updates including a few subtitle formats support.
Just like Dolphin needs to update TinyMCE. Who knows what else they're behind.

I believe it has something to do with that whole getfile.php and getmobile.php. I know with Apple devices, this has caused much problems for me. So, I completely bypassed it and did my own html5 with flash fallback. It still uses the same database and all that, but no more issues on any device.

i just find out the reason of this. This happen to me and when i check de red5.sh the java_home was empty. Check that variable
