IPB Dolphin 7 Integration - Part II

Thought I'd start a new page for this.  Since threads are on a single page, the other thread was getting a little hard to read.

Hello, integration it's a hard work and need many of code!

You will need integrate more things, like these :

1. parallel input / output
2. use dolphin avatar
3. show forum last post in home and profile page
4. parallel profile edit/ delete
5. Use dolphin's design into forum
6. use forum into groups instead of orca

PS: If possible do not write me personally, please try to ask on the forum first

Actually, I prefer Orca in groups and events.... go figure.  I just want IPB to replace the main forums.

Well, if it were not for the fact that i like to eat, have access to the internet, a roof over my head, heat, electricity, clothes on my body so people don't loose their lunch when they look at me, then i would say screw the job.

Status Update:

Getting close now. A few more days.

I also believe i have found a way to deal with search engine issues. Because IPB is in a iframe, links for IPB indexed by the search engines will not be correct. I believe i have solved that with a slight mod to IPB to redirect the link followed to the framed page for anything other than search engines.

IPB Integration Update:

Home page spy block added.
A simple forum spy page added.
Home, Search and Spy menu items added.

Code added to IPB's index page to check for bots and handle redirection to the framed page.

Nearing completion.

Feel free to test and point out any major issues.

WELL DONE!!!!

Ok. I am starting to package this thing up. Obviously because IPB is a commercial product i can't distribute it with the integration mod so people need to install it themselves.

The hardest task is going to be coming up with some idiot proof instructions dealing mostly with the proper install of IPB.

I hope to have it in the market within the week.

This is probably sacrilege, but have you considered not having a forum at all?  They are a major pain to manage - especially if you are building a community site.  The nice thing about blogs is the comments are managed by the author of the blog (at least in a normal set up - the blogs here are not normal).  You hardly have to touch them at all.

That might be true but (and I am only speaking for my community) my members like being able to easily scan what posts have been made them make comments to them on the fly. I myself like the blog format better but I have the hardest time getting them interested in using it. My forum will generate a 1000 posts before my blog section has 10.

I think they just like to stick with what they know and sometimes it's hard to move them into something new...

has this been released yet?

Bloody good job Deano!

Deano, I noticed something else today.  I had a spammer sign up, but since I have it set so that all new accounts must be approved, they weren't able to post any of their crap.  However, they were able to post in the IPB forum.  There's probably not an easy way to tie Dolphin permissions together with IPB user group permissions.  Just something to think about.
